Barclaycard Cashback

Hey guys,

So I've just called Barclaycard and they informed me I could upgrade my current account to another card. So the lady told me I could upgrade to either the Platinum or the Cashback card, so I choose the Cashback card. Has anyone else got the Cashback card, is it any good?

So far I know that there are 2 different cards under the same account:

The Barclaycard Cashback American Express® Card (1% Cashback)

The Barclaycard Cashback Visa Card (0.5% Cashback)

Has anyone else got this card?

What sort of question is it?
Many former Egg, then Barclaycard World customers have this 'combo':

Barclaycard World MasterCard (Ex Egg Money) Being Replaced with Amex + Visa Combo

Long-term 1% cashback is good, but Amex is less widely accepted than Visa/Mastercard. E.g. Aldi and Home Bargains don't take Amex. I can't pay with mine at Tesco pumps and have to go to the kiosk for extra 0.5%.

0.5% is pretty good nowadays too.

Just thinking if it's worth calling up and asking to upgrade to this? Currently have the Freedom Rewards one but I'm not really impressed with it.

At least this way you get cashback either way (albeit, slightly less if you use the Visa.) Still not bad. Aside from AmEx and Santander, most of the cashback cards these days are 0.5%.

Tesco were supposed to have fixed the Barclaycard Amex pay@pump issue. I have no idea why there was an issue in the first place though, any other Amex card works fine at the pump and has done for years.

I have this, it is the latest evolution from an ancient morgan stanley dean witter platinum account from 1997.

You get 2 cards, an AMEX and a VISA, both in black. Makes my wallet look cool as the 4 cards in the front when i open it are now all black. Clearly this is a far superior reasons than actual cashback.....lol

The cashback is great, as is the online banking but the thing that makes it for me as well is the mobile app. Truly excellent. You can claim your cashback at any time as well in the app.

I would recommend the cashback rather than platinum for spending when debt free - Its my "daily driver!"

The Barclaycard Amex comes in very handy when I shop at Costco as you still receive 1% cashback. Whereas with my other Amex they limit the cashback you receive to 0.5%

I didn't know this product was available to customers I thought it was only for cards that Barclaycard bought from other companies.

I upgraded my Initial to Freedom Rewards about 5 months ago and I haven't been impressed with it to be honest, so I thought on seeing this thread I'd give a call because the cashback would be much better than points and the lady said that she could do it and processed it for me. I will put all my spending on it and clear in full to get the benefit!

I was automatically ported onto this card from the Barclaycard cashback visa which paid 1.25% cashback, but paid 2.5% (i think! little hazy!) on your top five purchases in a statement month as long as you made 10 (or was it 20???) transactions.

I used this card for big transactions and then added a few filler pound or so transactions to trigger the higher interest rate.

Came in very handy when we spent 20k on a kitchen. The nice salesman allowed us to pay 7k (as that was the card limit) every few days after i cleared the balance each time until the kitchen was paid!
    So got £500 for free!

All other spends were put on my Amex cashback @ 1.25%.

So the new cards have never been dusted out of the wallet! The new product is not financially in my interest anymore. Which is a shame, although is was a bit of a fiddle trying to gauge what my biggest five spends were going to be.

Think I will close it down and get a 123 card to put petrol/diesel on and any big department store spends.

To all those who rang Barclaycard up and asked to switch to the cashback card, may I ask what number you rang?

I usually call the number on the back of the credit card and always get through to an Indian call centre and it's a real struggle trying to explain to them what I want to do.

I've never had a problem using the Barclaycard Amex at Tesco pay@pump - been using it for the last four months, and I buy all fuel at Tesco and 99% of the time pay at pump.
