I do enjoy it over in Liverpool ... You can have a conversation with anyone. By contrast, I used to walk everywhere when I worked in Enfield and nobody used to speak.
I went to Uni in Leeds and it was an eye opener for friendliness. My final summer, Leeds won the top division football (think it was the First Division then), and everyone was chatting to each other about it with such pride - even the 70 year old ladies in the bus queue who didn't follow footie as such!
Whereas the bit of Herts where I grew up, was very insular - people didn't interact with strangers.
Just watching Winterwatch - it's been snowing in Scotland!
I also saw the One Show, unusually, which focused on the imminent release of the Dad's Army film. I like the sound of it, and it's filmed in part in Yorkshire, so I think I'll go along when it's released.0 -
When I first came to Sydney it was very strange having people speak to me in the supermarket queue. I remember thinking, "What do you want? I don't have any money you know!".0

So the water was going down very slowly in one of the sinks in our bathroom so I tried to unscrew the ubend and the waste broke (as in the metal bit fractured. I have now got a new waste but I still can't unscrew the plastic bit from the remaining section of the waste thread - is it possible some cowboy glued it on? Anyone any suggestions, it is all too large for me to get spanners on to it. (Suggestions beyond 'it is a 4 quid bit of plastic, just buy a new one')
Where I work the only nap spot is 4'6" a slatted wooden bench in a rather smelly shower room - hasn't stopped me using it when I fell asleep at my desk for the second time in 5 minutes,. Why is it that is only needs a 15 minute doze/micro-sleep to completely refresh one's mental powers?I think....0 -
Have you got a wrench michaels? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

You need a plumber's wrench I suspect.
or failing that a strap wrench:
Defo recommend the former.0 -
I was thinking a strap wrench, do have an adjustable wench (enough about the Mrs) but the jaws don't go large enough. However the correct answer is just get a new bit - the straight section of one of these:

Stooopid question number 1: which way are you turning it? The plastic stuff is normally done hand tight, but by people a lot stronger than me.
So, you might a decent size wrench just to get it started. The sort Gen recommended. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
IT wouldn't turn the right way so I tried to see if it would shift a little bit the other way to loosen it...that was when the waste broke- not sure why it had corroded but it was also double slotted so weak by design. Looking at it I could believe it has been cross-threaded or the other option is that someone has glued it on to make sure it didn't leak (perhaps after cross-threading it....)
Can get a whole new trap for 2.97 in toolstation, I would also put money on probably having the right bit somewhere in the house/garage/shed but no doubt buying a new one is much more likely than finding the one I already have.I think....0
