But there is the satisfaction of having done the return.
CGT is charged at 18% for the portion of the gain that is below the higher rate threshold.
Out of interest, how much does your accountant charge for doing your returns?
I think we are possibly at the limit of being able to do our own. OH is the wrong type of accountant to advise us on tax.
So I had a 'introductory chat' with the accountant before buying the btl that he did as a freebie. Year one of rental I did the return myself as it seemed very straight forward and even if I had got the figures a bit wrong on the high side the tax was minimal (I pay tax on 10% share of any profit, DW pays no tax on the other 90% unless it were enough to get her into basic rate and it wasn't as we only had the property for 5 months in Y1). Y2 we had 8 months of rental plus the big CG, given the CG was much bigger I wanted to check the figures but there were only about 10 lines and accountant agreed to look at the lines and tell me what he thought again as a freebie as I was doping the return so it was a 5-10 minute call and that is where I found out we should have treated mortgage arrangement fees as a revenue rather than capital item hence I had failed to include them as a cost last year and that professional fees for architect and planning were probably not allowable because the planning wasn't granted they did not lead to a 'betterment' (apparently there was a test case where a conservatory was built and then removed and that was not allowed).
The fees for doing the return would have been 200+vat (that would have been deductible)I think....0 -
IIRC they ended up being bought up by the owners of the FT. I suspect that they would have gone bust but for the takeover.
When I was about 5 I was given one of those apple boxes full of Lego by a neighbour with kids that had grown out of it. I could make a row of houses out of that haul along with cars and trucks, all sorts.
This year The Boy bought Mrs Generali a Lego set for Christmas.
I was given my Lego by a neighbour as wellEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I don't think we would have survived youngest's childhood without Lego, although at times, it did cause more problems as ex had the annoying habit of destroying the creations half way through and sending youngest into meltdown.
Lego allowed youngest to calm down, much like music did for Josh. It allowed him to develop his creative side whilst also introducing some working with other children in a non threatening way as each child had their own pile of bricks.
James bought some of youngest's Lego before he went back to uni in September and then took it back with him. Instead of drinking nights, he has had Lego building nights with his flatmates! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Accountants, like solicitors, have the potential to earn more from sorting out the mistakes of the DIY brigade than from doing the returns in the first place. I speak as an accountant. Nearly finished this year's crop of tax returns now!
Luckily, another accountant will know their own limitations.

I only recall meeting them twice: when they gave me Lego and when they helped Dad bump start the car after I locked him out of it and turned the lights and radio on for a bit.0 -

I have decided to aim for 10 mins per day at speed 2.0, i think it is in kph. But by the feeling of my back I will be completely immobile before today's session. Not sure how house viewing. Dads taxi and MOT are going to happen this afternoon.I think....0 -
I think you work harder on treadmills than running on the road. Just my anecdotal experience.
I have been using the one at the gym which simulates different hilly environments. Treadmills aren't bad now, but they don't beat outdoor running.
I have been doing the High Intensity training class at the gym. It turns out I am the only guy with 13 other girls, mostly half my age ...
....can't really remember much about the exercise.
I'm sure it seemed tough or something
I think it's important to have a training program. I paid for an instructor to put one together, which arrived this morning. Too much too soon and you run the risk of further injury.0
