Dr Karl did appear on Neighbours but that wasn't the name of his character.

He's a fascinating man as it goes. He started out as a car mechanic and became a taxi driver before going on to study medicine and becoming a doctor at a hospital in Sydney. Then he decided to study physics and became a science communicator. (That's the short version).

He claims an IQ of just 120 but a highly trained memory.

    Thank you :)

Our first tenant in Herts had no references as she had just returned to the country - so we got 6 months rent and 2 months deposit in advance :)

Edit: Worth noting that Stevenage, Hatfield and most of Hemel are definitely not part of Inner Herts......
    I think....

    Ouch. Has today been easier?
It's all Herts to us.... no point you being sniffy. The telly people are onto you; they know you're all lawless in Herts.

Am thoroughly enjoying Stargazing live at the moment. I can't spot a constellation in the sky to save my life, but there's a real sense of excitement with Tim Peake being in the ISS (come to think of it, I've never spotted the ISS either ... !)

Death in Paradise is on BBC1 at the same time, so I'll look forward to watching my recording of it.

I had further sad news today, though hopefully it will improve soon. My Dad's sister was found semi-conscious in bed this morning after my cousin noticed her curtains hadn't been opened. She hadn't been that well at Dad's funeral before Christmas, with a heavy cold / cough. She's been admitted to hospital and is now on the acute care ward with suspected pneumonia and possibly other stuff going on (her GP indicates they'd had some adverse results from blood tests run recently).

I pray that she will recover some strength and health. It would be so painful to lose her only a couple of months after my Dad, and for my uncle to lose both his siblings in that timescale.

I get an email from NASA when it's going to be visible with a few hours notice. Don't worry about mistaking it for something else, you'll know when you see it as it's really bright and as it goes round the earth every 90 minutes it's really shifting.

This is a good time of year to view as it is visible just before sunrise and just after dark which are quite civilized times. The reason? You need to be in darkness to see it but it needs to be in the light!

I've a friend who turned his shed into an observatory. His wife was delighted! (not) :)

Because I understand electronics, he takes this as a cue to give me chapter and verse on the extreme lengths he goes to in getting great astronomy pics in an urban northern environment. I pretend to understand, but I glaze over really :)

The thing is though, the pictures he takes are fantastic. It's the software and signal processing which has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years. These pictures you would have thought to have come from the Hubble, if you didnt know.

It's probably a golden era for astronomy.

There are plenty of nice parts of Hemel, the issue if you are a family is that many of them have rubbish schools. So you either live in Boxmoor (one of the most expensive parts) where the best school is, turn Roman Catholic (the second best school is RC), or send your kids to private schools.

My family is from Boxmoor, I love it there.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I signed up at Ricky Hatton's gym today. Apparently, they spent £2m on the place, and it shows.

The exercise equipment is fantastic. I selected runs in the Rockies on the treadmill, and I recognised a few places :)

There's 2 boxing rings upstairs. I've put my name down for the boxing circuit training, but I reckon it will kill me ;). Those guys are really fit.

I remember hating Hertford as a kid when we went to visit friends there.

When it came to leave, 4 days later, I was gutted to be leaving.

I just had to try and explain who michaels is to my mother, without making him sound like a boyfriend or some random weirdo I've met on the internet :)

We ended up at a 'friend of Martin'.
