:( Lower back very sore again, resulting in sore legs and can't stand up without bending forward at the hips and can only walk in tiny shuffling painful steps. I do hate this getting old business...although I know it is better than the alternative.

If you can find a recommended chiropracter go for it!

I don't know about other treatments. But I had a recommendation for a chiro, and I went from bending right over to walk at all to being able to (sort of) walk upright. Not cheap though! Had to pay up front for set of X-Rays before he would even look at me, let alone treat.

Not been back for years now - prob should have done as back is carp again often. (roll eyes smiley)

If you're in so much pain you might think about getting yourself looked at by somebody - initially GP I guess?

Gentle hugs for that sore back Michaels.

Channel 4's OK. Just watched Mary Portas Secret Shopper, now it's 24 Hours in A&E. First up it's a woman who's had a stroke/similar, they were just watching TV and he turned round and realised she wasn't really responding/with it.

I really don't understand why you would want to watch other people being ill, unless you have a professional interest?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Is a fascinating programme. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad. Interesting finding out the stories behind the different people who've found themselves in the same A+E one day. And a good reminder to be grateful to have not had the need to be in a hospital today.

It is the Powerball lottery in the US tonight. $1.5bn jackpot, $2 per ticket, 291m to one or thereabouts odds of winning. If you win as a UK resident, you'd have to pay 30% federal tax plus whatever state tax is applicable (probably an extra five to ten per cent). I don't think lottery winnings are taxed in the UK, but not sure about overseas winnings.

    If you could, would you?
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Of course. All that fuss over 60-odd million squid when you could be more like a billionaire (or near enough after tax etc)? Imagine being able to give all your friends £60 million each!

I thought we'd established that I couldn't use one. That's what I understood .... not that I really understand any of it.

Telly's just retuned itself .... won't make any difference, it's been doing that all day.

The advantage of iPlayer is that you can download programmes and watch later. So when the broadband speed is rubbish, you can set a programme to download and watch it another time with no worry about speeds.

At least that's what happens when I use iPlayer on my iPad. Is NowTV the same?

Mine'd have to go to NPs....

Thanks. Now what can I spend it on? Nice of the lottery winner to spend it on flood victims.

The main issue, even with £33m, is that it's far too much to actually do anything with.

If I won £1m, I'd go on holiday somewhere nice, pay the mortgage off and throw whatever was left (just over half) into the company, but would a lot more than that really go that far towards improving my life, really?

Sorry if I seem miserable, but just trying to put a realistic view on it.

I reckon I could find a way to spend it.

£33mio. I'd buy a nice house round here. Something like this:

    http://www.domain.com.au/3-rooke-street-hunters-hill-nsw-2110-2012521014

So that's £1.5 million. Then I'd buy a crash pad in the Barbican. Something like this:

    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/new-homes-for-sale/property-55009118.html/svr/3118;jsessionid=06E351C96D992B9BDAAE301ACE974E43?premiumA=true

Plus a hobby farm over here to spend the weekends on. Probably something like this:

    http://www.realestate.com.au/property-livestock-nsw-exeter-7780426

Although ideally I'd get 100 acres. Enough to put a good sized olive farm on.

That lot is probably £5 million once I've put a house on the land and bought trees, equipment and plant.

Then I'd put aside a million for each of the Generalissimos to get them through education and buy each one a 2 bed flat when they go off to uni (a 2 bedder is good because they can let the second bedroom and make some money for themselves). Then put away couple of million for upkeep on all the places, pay service charges on the apartment etc, probably held in a range of Government bonds set to mature at annual intervals over the next 20 years.

Then I'd set up a pension for my sister & SIL and pay off BIL and SIL's mortgages, let's call it another million. Then £3 million for assorted charities. That's £13 million blown but I am now up and running with £20 million left.

Now I could just call it an income of £10k a week for life (but I'm stuffed if I live past 90) but that's too boring. I reckon that £20 million is just about enough to set up a family office so I'd do my CFA (portfolio manager qualifications) and spend another couple of years in my current job. Then I'd go and run my own money for a living.

Mad weather here today. Mrs Generali is working just up the road and it tipped it down there. They couldn't see across the street and the temperature dropped 11C in 2 minutes (from 38C!!!). We had weather warnings and all sorts. What did I get? A few spots of rain and a bit of thunder. And bloody Spurs lost. Still I've had a nice day at home with the Generalissimos, just chilling out really with some Top Gear and Merlin on the telly. Homemade pizzas for dinner. Nom.

Then back to work tomorrow for a special guest appearance. We're writing our twice yearly report and there's some really interesting things going in: we're looking at how CEO pay correlates with share performance if at all and likely policy responses to climate change and how that will impact investments (spoiler alert: some companies will go bust and others will do really well depending on how carbon efficient they are).
