Mm I work on the outskirts of Hemel, it's ok, nothing special! Never actually ventured into Hemel proper.

I was nearly run over at Sainsbury's at lunchtime today by an old bloke driving a Jag and smoking a pipe but I let him off because he was an old bloke driving a Jag and smoking a pipe. :D

But if you don't know where to look, it might be flying by behind a building ..... unseen.

Yes, that would be a bit pointless. As a result, NASA produces the email with the following format:

Date: Fri Jan 15, 5:54 AM
    Time visible: 2 min
Max Height: 88° (NB 90 is directly overhead)
    Appears: 76° above WNW
    Disappears: 30° above E

There's a thread on MSE somewhere that alerts people when it's to be seen etc.... and then they post live as they're spotting it.
    I always forget :)
I even forget when I remember and it's 20 minutes away because I've got distracted and realise 2 hours later.

Last post was last night: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4715041

    Good spot, thanks

I remember hating Hertford as a kid when we went to visit friends there.

When it came to leave, 4 days later, I was gutted to be leaving.

When I was in secondary school, I remember playing in the pit orchestra for several musicals at the main hall in Hertford (the name escapes me temporarily).

I was surprised at how gentrified it was when I was in Hertford over Christmas - it's got a Waitrose :D But no M&S, I think

I wouldn't buy a flat there. If you take a walk around in Summer and all the windows are open, you hear everyone else's discussion. Being on the water is nice, but it is too high volume and you're in the middle of traffic hell. Looks nice though.

Hope you feel better soon michaels.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. I'll pass them on to the kid in question. :)
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

They did mine but they are easy if you break it down.

Date: Fri Jan 15, 5:54 AM (not hard this one!)
Time visible: 2 min (the ISS is visible for 2 minutes)
Max Height: 88° (Imagine the sky is like a big pudding bowl above you. 0° would be at the horizon and 90° directly above your head)
Appears: 76° above WNW (the ISS will appear in the middle of the night sky. WNW is pretty much directly left of you if you face north. 76° means it is almost above you, 76/90ths of the way round the pudding bowl)
Disappears: 30° above E (the ISS will disappear 2/3rds of the way down the pudding bowl to your right as you face north)

I assume the horizon is 0 if overhead is 90.
WNW *thinks* ah, probably behind the big industrial unit over the road. So I'd need to go out and look .... that means the car as I'd feel a loony standing in the street, feel vulnerable if I went somewhere dark/open. I guess it's best to have a big open long line of view in the direction...big sweeping nothingness, so you don't miss it.

Well for that one it appears almost overhead so quite a good one to watch from an upstairs window if it faces the right direction.

I sometimes take the Generalissimos to the local park for the early evening ones.

No problemo. Leave it til Sat if you like.

Hope your back feels better soon.

We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
