I like that quote a lot. Very true! I pay every now and again, usually when there is a big rollover like tonight - one lucky dip.
I get my money's worth from the ticket fantasising about what I'd do with my £millions.

I picked a modest house in Chelsea earlier on, just in case :)

£300k at 30 is a different kettle of fish to £300k at 50 and 70.

At 30 you have to really think it all through, as there are risks.
50+ I'd say jack the job in..... even if you put it in your bedside cabinet and "only" took out £200/week to live on it'd last you until you're 80!

I was just going to say the same thing - it depends at what stage of life you are in. But people are extraordinarily uneducated about money.

We've been out this evening but just asked DH if we'd won. He said we would have had an email if so. So I guess that's a 'no' then.

  • Looking at those: 26, 27, 46, 47, 48, 52, 58 ... are any of them:

Well I tried to log on and buy some tickets a few times today and couldn't - site had crashed.

But as I wouldn't have picked any of those numbers it's just as well!

    You know whats more entertaining?

Pick your fave 6 numbers and stick to them.

Every week, deliberately do not buy your ticket.

Watch the lottery results show. You will find yourself desperately hoping your numbers dont come up.

When they dont come up, the sense of relief is great, plus....it cost you nothing :D

This should be posted outside every Lottery outlet. As should be the number of every local evening class in Maths.

Only joking! The idea this government wants there to be evening classes in anything is a charming fantasy to prevent our parents thinking the world's going to hell in a handcart!

Warm here (Cyprus) in the day. Can sit out for lunch😀 chilly evenings. Slightly longer days.
Never bought a lottery ticket. No utility to me from dreaming of riches .

    Sounds lovely.

It's blimmin' boiling here. 30C and the sun is baking down. It's going to be 42C on Thursday apparently before the cool change comes through.

If I had £300k, with what I already own etc I'd use £100k of that to get a different house, but not sure where ....

That'd leave £200k. If I could get 2% on that, that's £80/week. Plenty to live on, on the basis that the £200k still exists to dip into and I'd still have an option on working a bit. Also, within 5 years or so, hopefully, that 2% would be more like 4%.... it can't really go much lower. Back in 2007 Sainsbury's were paying 7% .... such a shame the world changed.

I would buy a house too, ok it wouldn't be in the super duper posh area but you can still get a pretty nice house in this area for a proportion of that.

The rest would be carefully used so that it lasted me a good while.

Edit - Just looked, seems we have had a property price explosion...wouldn't even be able to get a 4 bed and even a 3 bed would be a stretch!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    26, 27, 46, 47, 52, 58. Bonus ball 48.

If I'd been picking numbers .... it wouldn't have been any of those!

The higher numbers in that list are the least popular, so, as Silver said, those are the ones to choose.

If I'd been sure they wouldn't sell more than £100 million worth of tickets, I'd have felt obliged to buy a ticket. The rationale is that the regular prize money (50% of ticket sales) plus the £50m rollover would be more than the ticket sales. However, I'm fairly sure that ticket sales were vastly higher than £100m, and I made the right decision not to participate.

I saw your post with the picture of four glasses of beer, and I thought it might be very hot where you are.

Here, it's a beautiful winter day. Some light cloud, with some blue in the sky. About 5-7C, so you need a pullover, but it's a great day for going out and doing something. I have every intention of getting out of bed REALLY soon.
