    Anyone win?

58 was the first number out, so that's the people who can't let their original numbers go out of it.

Looks like a crap set of numbers to me. They've purposely created hype over giant rollovers to sell tickets because not even one person is going to legitimately win it.

I'm willing no one to have got six to find out how many managed five and the bonus.

It's gone down the pan in my opinion :(

First, the doubling in the stake price, disenfranchising those who can't afford to throw more than a pound at it.

Then they add 10 more numbers to irritate all those with their standard 6 numbers.

Then they use Katie Price and Piers Morgan in their ad campaign! I'm so chuffed to be funding Katie and Piers next round of botox. :(

Can't gamble. Just don't believe in it.

I gamble vary rarely. I regularly bet on odds that I know have been set incorrectly.

For example, our local club has a raffle where the value of the prizes is greater than the value of the tickets sold usually. As a result it is wholly rational to enter. Similarly there is a Test cricket bet that can often be had where people simply don't understand the likelihood of the outcome and so I can pick up free cash.

Good. I prefer more people to share a decent amount than a few to end up with a lot.

I checked my account in honour of the big prize. There was a message waiting for me. In July I won £25. (I have one entry each draw for £2 by DD).

Doozer's right, I bet the majority of people stick with the numbers they have had since 1994.

As Australian scientist Dr Karl says, entering the lottery only marginally increases your chances of winning it.

I like that quote a lot. Very true! I pay every now and again, usually when there is a big rollover like tonight - one lucky dip.
I get my money's worth from the ticket fantasising about what I'd do with my £millions.

Dammit. I would have picked those numbers.

    Oh well.

Would have been a long and expensive flight just to buy your ticket.

I was in a syndicate. £4 each, two lines, 10 of us. We got one line getting 2 numbers. That line means we win one lucky dip into the next draw. There will be a massive debate on whether we should go for Wednesday or Saturday.

They should put the balls which are drawn out back in before the next ball selection.

    It'd be fun to see 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, and...1.

"6 million winners tonight folks!" :)

For some people, buying a lottery ticket is the entertainment of the evening though. For £2 each, you can sit on your sofa with your family/friends, all waiting for the draw, chattering away, pondering what you'd do with your millions.

So, for £2/head for entertainment value and shared interests with a group of people for an evening, it's cheaper than most other forms of entertainment.

    You know whats more entertaining?

Pick your fave 6 numbers and stick to them.

Every week, deliberately do not buy your ticket.

Watch the lottery results show. You will find yourself desperately hoping your numbers dont come up.

When they dont come up, the sense of relief is great, plus....it cost you nothing :D

There was an article in a paper some time back where they were looking at a big syndicate where everybody won over £300k.

People were asking some official advisors about whether they could give up work and were told absolutely not. In those days the best thing to do was; pay off all credit card /store card debt, chuck as much as possible at the mortgage. Put £9k in a PEP and £3k in a TESSA. You'd need a substantialy bigger win/share of a win to live off the winning's interest back then.

Yeah, but you stand no chance of winning it if you don't enter.

Though I suppose that's what he means. The drink's starting to wear off now!
