    Impractical.
Four people, one couple, two singles.
Couple going away for a week the next day.
One single going home 2 days later/long car journey.

    So, neither use nor ornament.

Doesn't matter. It gives you something to give.

Otherwise donate to charity on their behalf.

PN £2.99 does seem rather a lot for a cellophane bag of nuts! I did see a big sack of loose walnuts the other day, but that was in a greengrocer's and I didn't notice the price as I wasn't looking to buy any.

I looked at the £/Kg price and it worked out about £9+ per Kg.

    Seemed a lot.

It's nice to crack a walnut at Xmas, but there's food overload..... I can't believe how many food options/variations/choices were out there until I went yesterday!
  • Right.... Christmas Eve.

    Time to start shopping. :)

The weather in Brisbane has been surprisingly pleasant this time, although there was a bit of light hail earlier before a massive downpour. however, further inland a hail storm appears to have actually destroyed some houses, which seems a bit extreme... I saw a severely hail damaged car the other day for the first time. It looked like a couple of rugby teams had bashed it with ball pein hammers for a few hours!

Saw a middle-aged man in the local pharmacy yesterday who'd come in to collect his meds and left with two soft toys and a toiletries gift set of a brand I'd never heard of :D
:) We have to keep these shops in business you know!

I tried to do some last minute ad-hoc giftery shopping in the village this morning, combining it with taking Lottie for a walk.

Complete failure! Everything is a constant excitement for an exuberant puppy.

I'd have better chances of success with a goat on a bungee cord.

DW won't let me tie her up outside shops in case she is stolen. I mean ....who would steal my wife? ;)

I noticed that today is the day they decide to put roadworks and temporary lights in the village centre.

That's going to go down really well. :(
  • Hello everyone, how are you all?
got a nice message last night from Generali saying some of you had been asking after myself, and how Daisy has been.
I must say that's very kind of you all, to still think of her after all this time :-)
Apologies for not being on here lately, life is very hectic and Daisy continues to keep us on our toes 24/7 !
She has been largely 'manageable' the past year, but always a constant worry.
Mrs Monkfish is an absolutely incredible carer to Daisy - some of the things she has learned to do over the years just blow me away. She really is a full time high dependency nurse all day every day.

Daisy herself is always happy and smiling. She is 12 now.
She has had a lot of high temperaatures over the past few months, which are always a worry because it could mean she has an infection in her feeding line. If this is the case, she has no choice but to go into hospital.
Most of the time, its just a common cold, but you never know if that could be masking something more sinister like a line sepsis.
If her temp goes over 38.0 on 3 occasions within about 1hr, the hosp protocol is to bring her in. If it hits 38.5, then we have to just go.
Recently we had a lot of nights where she has just sat at 37.9 while we hope and prey it doesn't go any higher! Always worrying times!
Its hard, because you kind of know, she just has a cold, but you are never quite sure if there is something worse. It has happened before where we thought she just had a cold, but once we got to hospital, and they had done tests, it turned out she had a Line sepsis.
As you can imagine, our house has to remain extremely clean and sterile, especially around Daisy and her medical room!

In the new year, Daisy has some important surgery lined up. We are just making sure all consultants and surgeons are singing from the same song sheet before we sign anything to give the go ahead. We are in discussions with them, but as you can probably imagine, there are a lot of them involved when it concerns Daisy !! (and some don't always listen properly!!)

Well I'm here for a bit today, so be nice to chat :-)
Wish you all a very very Merry Christmas xxx

So nice of you to pop in and see us IM. I don't know whether to say I'm glad things are manageable or I'm sorry that Daisy is still suffering and life is a struggle, but you are in my thoughts.

Did you manage to make adaptions to your home?

    Hiya

Well, Daisy will never be better or cured, so 'manageable' is really as good as it gets. So long as she is happy in herself, cheeky and smiling, we will take that any day :-)

Yes adaptions are pretty much all done, and our house is more like a mini-hospital now. But it functions brilliantly for all her complex medical needs.

We just need to finish paying for it all now !! :-/

Oh, something to give. Is that it?

My 'speshulness' makes gifts difficult to understand. I saw it being explained to Sheldon in the Big Bang Theory once...

I really struggle ... not against giving things, but I don't do "choosing" of anything, even for myself, very well at all.

They're not the "charity on their behalf" sort of people. Maybe I should just go and buy them their own, real, donkey.... bound to be some up in the Forest for sale :)

Sometimes you drive yourself mad to find the perfect gift, think you have got it sussed and you can tell it was a flop. Other times you pick something random and they are overwhelmed at your thoughtfulness.

If you got a plant, the people in the car could easily load it up and drive home.

So DS2 has been deposited at train station. He has wrapped presents; he refused to label them because he said that made them look like full presents rather than gifts. :shrugs:
