Our NYE is a mixture of what NPs do. Ranging from being in bed and asleep, to being in bed with a bottle of bubbles, attending house parties, away ( fireworks in the netherlands a couple of years, borneo on the beach once). This year we dithered about going to the Royal Opera House (dinner, the ROH company sing arias various, then out onto the terrace to watch the fireworks) it was £500 a head. We wanted to go in a four and asked friends if they would like to go, but they are going to the same thing in Florence that night. We were sorting out our hotel, when we decided that it was too much money overall when what we really wanted was to be in a party of friends, so we have booked for a black tie dinner at a local restaurant, with friends. I am always a bit embarrassed and self concious by the whole auld langsyene thing. Would prefer raising a glass, pecks on the cheek, and sitting back down. I hope I will be excused any hokeycokeying around the square after midnight (disability has to have some perks).

We could host NYE here and dictate how the evening runs but we have DDs birthday a day ot two later and she usually has a party here. This year we are hosting on 2nd January. Agreed food this evening;Tapas followed by Beans with smoked paprika, chorizo, Tortilla, for the main dish as she has bout 30 expected I am making vege paella then dividing up to cook further with added chicken and sea food

Drinks will be Margarhitas, Sangria or winter Pimms, Rioja. Need to find a non alcoholic drink and have yet to decide on pud . Suggestions welcome .

Doozergirl this is my favourite pheasant recipe. I usually use a bottle of port if we have a spare http://ladies-shooting.com/pheasant-casserole/

This weekend for a big family lunch I am cooking Pheasant like this http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/main-ingredient/poultry-and-game/pheasant/pot-roasted-pheasant-with-port-and-chestnuts.html

    I also have a vege option http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/chestnut-shallot-tatins-mushroom-madeira-sauce

and just incase someone does not eat chestnuts I have cooked a gammon

Not sure it would meet PN and Sue's requirements

Where I'm originally from, we eat anything that
    (1) is softer than rocks
and (2) doesn't eat us first

So anything that doesn't break our teeth is fair game.

Thank you. I will review tomorrow. I'd like to try something on Sunday to replicate on Xmas Eve.

Our guests arrived early and so the pie became a beef and ale (and mushroom) casserole with root veg mash and buttered veg. It was tasty :) My christmas wine supply is heavily depleted.

Everyone else is still up but I have retreated. Thankfully, thai food counts as hangover food and I have a thai lunch and hair of the dog at 12.

I tried cooking shallots once. Almost impossibly fiddly to peel, and when you're done with that there's practically no onion left. Why bother?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Nah, that would meet my requirements...well as long as there is no kick! I absolutely love good tasting, quality food that is a little bit of an indulgence (probably wouldn't have the veggie option though :rotfl:)

Edit - Having looked at the veggie option more closely, I would eat that as well but minus the cabbage to accompany it. Love mushrooms, love shallots, love pastry (naughty for me) and love chestnuts.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I'm nominating you my official advisor.

*Texts DS2 to remind him to let GFs family know he has a nut allergy*

Luckily he won't go into shock if he is near a nut, but should avoid them nevertheless.

Assuming that chestnuts count as nuts, given they grow on trees.

My mate that is allergic to nuts gets a nasty rash if he eats chestnuts. Given that his heart stops if he eats nuts then I think they must be a sub-branch of the family.

Not all nuts are the same when it comes to allergies. Even all tree nuts. Depends on which protein in the nut you're allergic to. Sounds like a good move to make the hosts aware though and if it helps everyone to relax, to avoid chestnuts as much as possible.

E.g. http://www.anaphylaxis.org.uk/knowledgebase/sweet-chestnuts/ looks like a reasonable source of info (but I'm not a Dr.)

Do they really taste that different to ordinary onions? I didn't have enough of them left over after peeling to notice. :)
