Just found out I'm entertaining this evening. Any suggestions on what to cook? I'm not inspired.
Quick and not too expensive at this time of year? Simples!
Pheasant with Cumberland sauce, mashed spuds and roast pumpkin, parsnips, carrots and onion.
If not Cumberland sauce then maybe a port and currents sauce thickened with butter.0 -

Not too hard if I'm tipsy?
Pan seared tuna, with a sauce to match; tangy soy, pesto, avocado dip, maybe rice vinegar or ginger, a bit of pepper for heat?
Serve with Olive bread, mmm.0 -

My most memorable NYE was after Uni, sharing a house with a mate.
He had 2 Playboy Bunny girl outfits he alleged were left over from some occasion, so we decided to wear those, complete with bunny ears, a fluffy bob tail , fishnets and heels which didn't fit.
My gf at the time seemed to buy into this initially, helping out with getting ready.
We felt like idiots and drank too much before arriving at the one and only nightclub in town.
It was only then that I found out just how rude and suggestive girls on a night out can be. They were pinching my bottom; shoving notes into my cleavage; bending my bunny ears; whispering suggestions.
Aforementioned gf obviously didn't take too kindly to all this. I felt at one point as though I had walked on to the set of Jerry Springer!

Isn't that illegal?
Obviously not, but luckily all the piscine police will be on their chrimbo works do, so I think it would be safe.0 -
Have to say the turn of the year seems like an arbitary calander artifact to me so like most nights we are generally asleep before midnight.
I have to agree with that sentiment.
I can well remember the Millenium when we were living in Florida, and we got a few phone calls at 7PM from people in the UK wishing us a "Happy New Year" etc etc.
Realised then what a nonsense making a fuss about a clock wherever you are on the planet hitting midnight is.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

I'm a bit worried about you actually having a "cleavage" ...............or are you talking about a different part of the body 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

I think "the fun edge" has been taken off the evening telly's run up to Xmas now they seem to focus on showing all the New Year's round the world, starting with Sydney, while we're still digesting our 20th turkey sandwich of the week, it's midday, it's still broad daylight outside and we've not even thought about if we're going out and where to later on in the evening.
It spoils it.0 -
The pie sounds yummy Doozergirl, but if you're making the pastry from scratch I'd suggest not getting tipsy until it's made, or you might go on mixing it for too long and then it will fall to bits when you try to roll it out0

I don't see doozer as a pastry-making person.
I bet she's the "packet of ready rolled" type.
Life's too short for pastry.0
