I used to like Hootenanny, but fell rather out of love with it when i realised it wasn't actually live but gets filmed around October :( Cheat! Cheat!

When I re-read the post I made about Christmas I suddenly recalled the year when DD1 was 16 and depressed, and refused to get up "because there's there's nothing to get up for." That was a bit grim. Only happened the once though, and she did get up later on. But that was definitely a stressful Christmas morning.

This year we need to get up in time to go and take presents to DD2 and family before they leave to go to friends for lunch, but not so early that OH struggles to get up and feels awful for the rest of the day! We'll probably then go straight to DD1 and hope she doesn't mind us getting there much too early.

Over here, NYE is all about fireworks. Never been a fan personally.

Reminds me of the years when OH was in the Army and we lived in Germany and Belgium. Loads of wonderful fireworks on NYE and every year the DDs would beg me to wake them at midnight so they could watch them. Every year I tried, and every year they'd refuse to wake up :D

DD2 and her OH were in Sydney for the NYE fireworks in about 2002. They've got a photo of it on their wall :) Their favourite place on that holiday was/were the Whitsundays.

Oh - NYE here - we don't really do it. Might stay up just to watch a film.

The Whitsundays are lovely ivyleaf. Just beautiful.

We're flogging 2 hours up the coast to SIL's place on Xmas day to eat, if last time is anything to go by, overcooked, reheated lamb with not enough veggies and then driving 2 hours home again. Yay.

Boxing Day is going to be at our place. Smoked trout pat! followed by roast beef and some nice tropical fruit thing later.

The first time we went to SIL's, BIL served frozen vegetables, cooked to a soggy mush.

    I started cooking after that.

The last time we went, I was really ill. They organised a 'cabbage plate' following a recipe. I think the idea was that it was a colourful mix of different cabbage leaves. It was that, but they just happened to be cold and raw.

    Christmas is about food.

The annoying thing is that SIL is actually a decent cook, she just gets the hump and can't be bothered at Christmas.

Boo. It's all about food for me.

Just found out I'm entertaining this evening. Any suggestions on what to cook? I'm not inspired.

Have to say the turn of the year seems like an arbitary calander artifact to me so like most nights we are generally asleep before midnight.
    I think....

The poop scoop thing has arrived. What is strange is that Doozer has placed it under the Xmas tree!?

Chicken, bacon and mushroom pie. Root veg mash and some other veg on the side.

Not too hard if I'm tipsy?
