DD is (as I was when I was her age) a joiner of clubs. She has things on 4 out of 5 lunchtimes at school, two clubs after school at school, and drama after school outside of school. She'd join more things if I had the energy to take her to them. She goes on every trip (day or residential) for which she's eligible, with school, with church, with our local child bereavement charity...
DS is not. He does two clubs in lunchtimes at school - one because he's been committed to it since Y7, and one because he knows that Mr PE-Teacher only gives effort grade 1 to students who do some extra-curricular sport. He does the same after school outside school drama that DD does. He won't go on school trips unless they're compulsory, or the social events at church that are organised for his age group, or anything of that sort, apart from the Y6 leavers' residential at the end of primary school.
My style of parenting involves letting them each do what comes naturally as far as joining things or not joining things is concerned. I sometimes feel it would make my life easier if they weren't so different from each other, but they just are, and not just about this but about load of other things too.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Pre divorce, the boys went to several clubs - swimming club, swimming lessons, cubs, karate etc. I did try to keep them up post divorce but James had lost the love for swimming after ex hubby told him we were splitting on the way down to the pool and Josh was never a huge lover of it all anyway.
James did carry on at cubs, then scouts and then of course, became a leader there before he went to university.
Youngest never really did clubs apart from swimming club but because they couldn't have both him and Josh in the same group, he got bored. They kept keeping him back until Josh had progressed to the next group and because Josh was a slow learner at swimming, youngest felt lots of frustration at being better than most in the next group yet still being held in the lower group.
Going to have to make an appointment tomorrow to see the GP, something untoward is occuring in one of my breasts. I'm not into panic mode as there are a myriad of possible reasons but it appears the general advice is to check these things out.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

DS did nothing at all. Can't find anything that would drag him out the door, apart from walking the dog.
Good idea getting the checkup. Almost certainly nothing needing following up, but always best to be sure. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Well, my boiler decided it didn't want to work last night.
Spent half an hour turning it on/off and it eventually fired up. Really need to get someone out to look at it💙💛 💔0 -
We had a table tennis table when I was a kid. I used to play from March to October most days. I loved it.
Hope the breast is okay Sue.
Got my appointment with the haematologist on Thursday so I have the usual nerves. I'm sure it'll be okay but it plays on my mind.
I did some interesting research on obesity today. The US soda manufacturers have spent over $100,000,000 on advertising and lobbying to try to reverse anti-soft drink legislation and taxation since 2009! That's what we economists call, "loads".0 -

Did you play outdoors? Isn't the wind a problem? (I am avioiding admitting that we had a table tennis table set up full time when I was young, the space in the room was slightly limited by having a 10 foot snooker table in the same room).
In your position I would feel much happier that I was having the check ups than if they weren't available.
When I was a kid we drank water out of the tap (admittedly it was quite nice water, they opened up a bottling factory a few miles away) and my kids have the same (at least when I am at home, I think squash happens when I am out). To me the diet and normal versions of soft drinks taste the same so I can't see why people would choose the sugary ones, they just leave everything feeling sticky. But either way buying drinks seems to me a demonstration of having too much income and not enough sense.
It is freezing here this morning, I am hoping it is because the heating has been off all weekend and it is taking time to warm up and not that it is broken (this half of this floor is always the coldest anyway for some reason). Everyone has their coat on, some have hats and scarves.I think....0 -
GP just rang back (we have a weird system here, you ring for an appointment, someone calls you back to firstly see if you need one and if so, to book one for you). Booked in for 11.15, she had no appointments left so is fitting me in.We made it! We used to play in the garage. Even the merest hint of a breeze completely ruins a game of table tennis played above the very lowest standard. In your position I would feel much happier that I was having the check ups than if they weren't available.
I'm a little bit concerned that I was meant to be having PET scans every 6 months and now I am not. I wonder if that's because the risk of getting cancer from the radiation exposure is greater than the cancer not got by having the scan. I will ask the Doctor when I see him. Medicine is a lot more collaborative in Aus than the 'get what you're given and be grateful for it' approach of the NHS.When I was a kid we drank water out of the tap (admittedly it was quite nice water, they opened up a bottling factory a few miles away) and my kids have the same (at least when I am at home, I think squash happens when I am out). I used to have squash a lot when I was a kid but then I was an extremely active kid and so probably needed the energy. You burn a lot of fuel on a 50 mile bike ride!
The weather was lovely today: bright and sunny and in the mid-twenties. None of this 42C rubbish. Summer doesn't even start until 1st Dec so what it was doing being almost 110F I don't know but it can blimmin' well stop it.
I'm just watching Tottenham putting West 'Am to the sword. Crikey the 'Ammers are bad, really poor. How did they get so high up the league? They look like relegation fodder. Dreadful.0 -

Bit like us with a covering of snow on Saturday morning and -6 on Saturday night...winter doesn't start till 1st December officially (although to be fair we are still looking at one of the warmest November's on record)I think....0
