I have been stuck on the A3 for four hours. No accident involved, sheer weight of traffic.
Always got audiobooks with me as the radio gets old very quickly at such times.
That's where being a big soccer fan helps. Whenever I've been badly stuck in the UK there's always been soccer on the radio.
The roads are much better here for traffic even if the road surface is terrible as a rule and the drivers complete idiots. I saw a woman watching a film on her tablet while driving along a few weeks ago. She'd even got a special mount on her dashboard to hold it. Texting seems to be the norm at a red light.0 -

I couldn't get over how polite drivers are when driving in the towns in the Rockies in Western Canada.
They had crossroads without lights, relying on people taking it in turns....which they did.
Back in the UK it would be a complete bunfight !
We still get irate in this country when people fully use the outside lane when it goes from 3>2 or 2>1 lanes; as though it's somehow bad conduct to use all the lanes. A guy on telly explained research showing that it can be up to 40% more efficient when all lanes are used.0 -

Actually that's one of the few things that Sydney drivers do better than British ones; zippering. I don't understand why the Brits are so crap at that when generally they're quite courteous drivers.
I went to a town in France that has taken out all road signs and rights of way. It was an interesting experience driving around it. It's far safer apparently.0 -

Probably because you have to slow down/stop, rather than those with right of way pushing through.
The UK is really courteous compared to Georgia, the best example probably being that in the UK, flashing lights means 'you have right of way' where in Georgian it literally translates to 'get out the ****ing way'.
My new car doesn't have 'euro' plates. Just called the dealer who've said that they'll take the plates off the old one and put them on the new if I can get down there today.
Just gutted the stickers the dealer has put on the car (one on the back window, one on the front) and will have manufacturer (as opposed to dealer) plates on the car in a few hours, so that probably won't go down too well (no free advertising)💙💛 💔0 -

They do that in Jersey. Signs that say "filter in turn".
I need to go to a meeting 100 miles from here. Was considering driving, but you lot have put me off, I will go by train. Super off peak return is £56. Petrol would have been about £30 (that's a wild guess).I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. More likely I'm just guessing wildly.
Petrol is what £4.80 a gallon and the car does 40mpg. 200 miles would be £24. Does that sound better?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Exactly, you drive as you walk: with a basic awareness of where everyone else is.
When I was riding in France, especially in the mountains, I used to get very cross with people coming up behind me and beeping their horn to get me out of the way. I was climbing a 20km mountain at 8% or something, how the heck could I speed up.
After a while the centime dropped; they were warning me that they were behind me not being aggressive at all <<dumb bloke smilie>>.0
