I think it was the Chairman of the company that owned the first computer available for hire in the UK that thought that demand for computers could rise as high as one computer per year in the UK.
    ...

I suspect most of the buyers want an appliance nowadays, rather than a computer.

It helps explain take up of smart phones; smart tvs; games consoles which can do media; etc.

When I tell DD and DS and their friends you can actually use the laptop in front of them to solve problems I mostly get blank stares.

The one area breaking this trend is the Raspberry PI; a British success story which deserves more accolades :)

Went for a walk on Saturday, and ended up in ruins of Waverley Abbey (12th century Cistercian abbey), near Farnham.
Very nice if it's your thing, and it's free.

    Very nice Wheezy.

I'm no construction specialist, but I suspect it's not quite finished!

(A nice bit of pebble dash rendering, and a conservatory should fix things ;) )

I went there as a kid one time. I think it might have been instead of visiting Frensham Ponds because it was raining.

From that you can surmise either:

    1. I am old enough that the monastery still had a roof when I was a kid
    or
    2. Getting wet from above is in some way worse than getting wet from below in the opinion of the person in charge of the day trip we took.

    Only you can decide.

Used my VPN to pretend to be in the UK and it works Perfectly.

Can we have a whip round and buy Real Madrid a calendar and a clock please?

They do seem to struggle with the idea of a deadline at the end of the month when it comes to spending those millions.

Perhaps they could get a few Sheiks in from Man City Middle Eastlands to show them how to splash the cash Arabian style :)

Is there a numpty of the day award here?

If there is, I feel it only right to nominate myself.

Short story : took my car in for MOT today. This is the conversation on collection.

Garage : "We had to replace a bulb and also investigate why the fuse blew on the headlight washers; probably due to lack of use"

    Me : "What headlight washers?"

Garage : "Those things that pop out of the bumper and spray water jets at the headlights.

Me : "Waste of time these fancy features I think..."

Garage : "Well, it's an MOT requirement now, seeing as you have these High Intensity Headlights"

    Me : "High Intensity...what?"

My friendly garage owner had definitely put me down as someone who probably didn't even know the colour of the car!

I tried to regain his confidence in me, by showing him a button in the cabin which when pressed turns an LED on....and that's it. 4 years down the line and I still don't know what it does! :D ....at least nothing falls off when you press it.

DW can top this. She paid plenty extra for some iDrive entertainment package on her car, and she has no idea how to load songs almost 2 years down the line ;)

    Tecknolodgee eh?

The stalk that operates stuff, attached to the steering wheel, enables me to change stuff that displays on the radio panel. I'd pressed it a few times, but felt out of my depth ... then, the other month, I realised that I wanted to change what it showed me (e.g. miles until you refuel, current fuel usage rate, overall fuel usage rate, er, other stuff) - and couldn't get it to work. "OK, it's broken, fair enough" I thought .... and it was another 2-3 months before I realised I must have been pushing the wrong button as I managed to change it the other day. God knows how.

I had a fancy Sony stereo fitted to a previous car, and every so often it would show a train chugging across it's screen, in all it's pixelated multi-colour.

Why? What has a train got to do with cars?!
    :rotfl:

I think they have run out of sensible features to add.

Has anyone tried auto-parking? It's on DW's BMW but I don't think I'd trust it somehow.
