Hoover Dam/Lake Mead... Have been to plus Lake Powell from Vegas, nice trip, going onto the dam was amazing. Also to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Hard to get your head round the vastness.

A bit further away but worth considering are Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park in Utah. Realistically, Utah is a long way away from everywhere, so Vegas is as easy a route in as any.

I got six months salary, three months notice and a one year paid contract. Do I win?

Beats me. I got a month's gardening leave once. That was great.

Our pear tree has top right and bottom left in blossom the other 6 or so branches are a bit behind? It produced 25 or so pears last year which is a lot for a tree of its age and size.

No need. Mrs S married one.

He clearly didn't if he's supposed to be doing it!

Yes! Wish they'd treated you better in the first place though!

The best I've had was reapplying for my job. With a pay cut. Hmm. .. After a fab week out of the office, I was very tempted to walk last week. Too much nonsense . Need to get the mortgage down first though! I've never heard of anyone I know getting a pay off from work. Actually, tell a lie, last boss (academic, not my supervisor) offered a couple of us money (unspecified amount, probably a tenner). We declined to renew our contacts as he was an a-hole and we were totally overworked and undersupported. I refused, didn't want a penny of his (personal) money. Nor to ever hear from him again.

No advice for fir (you've had plenty of wise words already I see), but hugs from me and I hope he/ you get what you want/ need/ deserve out of the situation.

Michaels - you should get the DKS trained in washing up. It's an underrated skill I think. At the very least go to sleep!

Sorry, I don't understand. What is this washing up thing you speak of?

I believe it's a way of getting plates, cutlery etc not as clean as a dishwasher would get them, using more hot water, and taking more effort. I wouldn't dare try it here - my dishwasher belongs to a closed shop and would complain to its union if anyone else tried muscling in on its job. At least, that's what I always tell visitors when they suggest anything of the kind.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Could you have words with my parents next time they visit as they don't listen to my instructions to use the dishwasher? Dad insists on washing things up despite it taking a long time for the water to get hot   :D

Most of the time I find washing up quite satisfying. Of course is only me though (to wash up and to create the mess that needs washing up). I am however keeping an eye open for an offer I can't refuse on a dishwasher, and think I've worked out where it would go in my kitchen...

Edit. No one helps me with the washing up here either! Not allowed. Long term visitors do their own? but I wash up after my guests. Besides, I'm kinda fussy :o

LIR - I'd look at it a little differently. You mentioned previously that FIR might have to take a worse paid job. As a minimum, I'd be looking for that reduction in pay as compensation.

Thanks Nikks. The irony was that they were a fantastic company to work for, but I was so fed up after sadistic boss. He'd left a few months before (not left company, just repositioned to harm another poor bunch of saps), but I took vr when the firm moved as I'd had enough. He was big on NLP and used it to batter anyone who crossed him into submission. I'd never come across it before and didn't know how to defend myself. He'd already got rid of my previous boss. It was highly political.

I'd been there a long time, I wasn't particularly the target, more collateral damage, so they came good for me in the end, but by then it was too late.

I don't find the dishwasher ever gets pots and pans clean and even plates and cutlery are best rinsed off first unless you are going to run the dishwasher straight away and we don't run it half full. Anyway all done now and in bed by 10.30 but still tired today :(
    I think....
