It hit home that my indepengence has changed for the long term, which is something I had not anticipated. I found getting around very tiring and abnormal movement switching in, which I don't much like. On the otherhand my fellow citizens were all a considerate lot as my difficulties made their presence known.

Well, you know you seem to be doing very well. And seem to be accepting this ok. IME, these sort of acceptances are hard bits.

And if its a toss up between being yourself and going to London only with someone....you got best end of deal. :).

Yesterday was my 55th Birthday. I had a lovely day. Celebration a huge success and i feel very content with the world. Food choices were at two different ends of the spectrum but both very good . Dinner at ROH, followed by mojitos back at the hotel. Breakfast was Black pudding, bacon with bubble & squeak in a Bap at Borough Market.

    Belated birthday greetings!

I also learned that I could not do a trip to London alone. Getting out of taxi's was hard , on getting in my left leg gave way a couple of times, getting off the train I needed assistance and staff tried to help me but caused me great pain ( My left arm "drew up" and it looked like I was offering it for the guard to hold when he then held it and lifted it a little it felt like my arm was coming out of its socket) not his fault but involuntary movement on my part. flights of stairs in random places. It hit home that my indepengence has changed for the long term, which is something I had not anticipated. I found getting around very tiring and abnormal movement switching in, which I don't much like. On the otherhand my fellow citizens were all a considerate lot as my difficulties made their presence known.

Don't think I could do London alone now either. Need the wheelchair for anything over a few feet, but don't have the strength to self propel for traveling. Can manage fine in eg an art gallery, floor is flat, and I'm stopping about every 2 foot to look at pics or read the labels. But when we went to the Leonora Carrington exhibition at Tate Liverpool was very glad OH was with me as he was able to give a quick final look at some of the pictures without me having to trundle myself. And was very glad to get those final looks. So wanted to go back before it finished, but too knackered.

We have found that all cab drivers (both black cab and ordered mini-cabs) have been very helpful over getting wheelchair in and out, and are very anxious to help me in and out of cab. Though I prefer to manage myself with stick and hanging onto those handles by the door in black cab and take it slow.

Can't remember if we discussed this or if you mentioned, but I do think that it might be worth you looking into applying for a Blue Badge for disabled parking if you didn't already. It has been a godsend for me, especially seeing as it means we can actually park outside our daughter's home in London when we visit. Couldn't visit otherwise. :( And not that I go out shopping much, but on the few times I do it's useful as means can park closer to shops. And it belongs to the person, not the car, so if a friend was driving you it would be OK for them to park close enough for you to get to places.

I saw some advert for some new-fangled, allegedly easy/lightweight, folding scooter the other week. Like all things though, even if it is something one's prepared/able to use, it'd still cost an arm and a leg no doubt.

Just tried to google it, no idea if this is the one, but it's similar. Looks like £1500 to buy, or £70/week to hire.

Looks like a lot of faff to be lugging anything round. What you really need is one of those and a tag that goes round your ankle that wirelessly makes it follow you so you don't have to pull it.

Or this one, allegedly the lightest: http://www.mobilityhire.com/freerider-luggie.html

PN....the wait must be so difficult when you know the eventual outcome.

Nikks, released, throw some balloons in the air and watch them disappear with all the frustrations that have built up.

Just watching the news, with someone surviving in the underneath carriage of a plane. I know desperate situations call for desperate measures, but don't people realise that the wheels are released for landing.

    Not Nice mode.

We have a passage way at the side of our house that we use to access the back garden, as do our neighbours. So the 2 passage ways meet at a fence that is the boundary between our properties. We both abut the boundaries on the other side, so we both use these passageways to take stuff between back and front gardens and for our gardeners.

Our deeds clearly show that we are responsible for the boundary on the other side. It seems logical that our neighbours are responsible for this boundary. The fence posts have broken at the base, so we and they shove the fence back and for, at ground level it stays roughly in position. At 6ft high it is leaning against our wall or theirs.

They aren't interested and say it is our fence on their boundary. We think they should replace it as it is their boundary. I've had a couple of quotes and it would cost £800-£1k to replace properly. They won't share I'm sure because in the past they've refused.

I'm tempted to get a gate put in at the end of the passageway (there is one at the front already). Be a pain because there would be 2 gates to navigate. Would cost £200-300. Then we could remove the fence if they are not going to replace and leave the passage way double width. This may annoy them or they may not care.

    Am I being petty?

    Do you need a fence?

You have no small kids or dogs. If its your fence remove it. See how they feel then.

We don't need it, though it is a bit odd not to have one. They have no small kids or dogs either.

Only in uk. You might hope they feel the same and agree to contribute to one.

Personally I'd rather have control and pay for the fence I wanted. But that's me. As for you cost/rightful ness seems the issue you could play the game a bit. :).

They assume that the wheel space is nice and cosy like the inside of the plane. They probably have no concept of what -60C temperatures mean, nor how thin air at 30,000 feet is. Mercifully, nearly all of them are dead or at least unconscious long before they fall out.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
