I dunno, can be pretty frustrating when you're living with someone who whilst being a lovely person has apparently very little common sense and manages to forget/ misinterpret very basic and direct [STRIKE]orders[/STRIKE] polite requests.
Its a great reminder of the joys of living alone...
I believe you, although it hadn't immediately sprung to my mind because it's never been my misfortune to share my home with an adult fitting that description. (Children, on the other hand...) LNE was the sort of person who was so stunningly competent at just about anything practical whatsoever that those who came into contact with him felt deskilled by comparison, not least because he had rather a habit of telling those close to him that they were doing things all wrong.
I would hope that most adults would be able to lift a ladder off somebody who had fallen over on the stairs with the ladder on top of them, though, wouldn't they? Which was the situation I was commenting on in PN's post.
When not injured, trapped by falling ladders, etc, I can easily imagine some advantages of living alone. A house where nobody makes any mess but me ... hmmm ... yes, definite advantages. But I am not in a hurry for my kids to grow up and leave.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

And this is why .... everything's where it is really. No point putting things all away neatly if you're not 100% storage-sorted yet. No point hanging things up if you can just drape them over something close by ....
After all .... nobody's coming round to know
Everything ends up being "to hand".
Oh believe me, I understand that. I fall prey to that way of thinking too. "Nobody's coming round to know" says it exactly. My kids knowing that I haven't put anything away doesn't bother me in the way that it would bother me for anybody else to know. So they are "people" in my house making mess, but they are not "people I don't want to think I'm a slob" motivating me to keep the place in order. Worse of both worlds in that particular respect. Although they will help tidy up if forced/bribed/begged to do so, so they're better for tidiness than they were when they were really little, when they couldn't even do that. They're also past the stage of drawing on walls, putting the hosepipe through the catflap into the kitchen, spooning yoghurt onto the dog's head (which he shook off all over the room) etc etc.
OK, rest over. Time to go and make further progress with the boxes of kids' stuff...Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Lydia, would it be easier on you all to tackle it in bite sized chunks, maybe a box a day? The end result would take longer to achieve, but the direction of travel would still be the right one. Plus there's less to feel bad about if you don't achieve what you want in the time you want. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

This is why, IMO, your storage should be pleasing. Easy to use but also PRETTY. Painted or papered a colour you like but would not feel confident enough to use in a room, so you get a little frisson of joy when you see it putting stuff away. And maybe putting something nice scented in each storage space...and different scents, for same reason.
Faffy....sure, but worth it if it helps with tidying IMO.0 -

Or timed chunks. I tidy / clean to best tv programmes I can find my preference. Its amazing how much you can get done in a furious three minute advert break.
Then you get a good long recovery period.. But you can do something during the programme and feel its a bonus....quiet sorting ready to shift in breaks, or polishing a table, or cleaning a window. Leaving things like vacuuming for breaks.

I didn't get shortlisted for the first job I applied for
I'll be honest, with my experience & qualifications, I'm very surprised to not get an interview.
With absolutely no enthusiasm, I put in for the 2nd job today.
I'll post an update on the things I've planted in the next 24 hours.
In which case it's almost a given that you will get the second job, the way of life.
Will await to see if bugslet's prediction comes true! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Is it the day I got the keys? Or the day I moved stuff (& me) in?
On the getting the keys, I got the call at 11.29am on one day. Went round & deep cleaned the place, prepared for moving all the stuff. The actual move in was the day after.
When do I celebrate? :huh:It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Safe? Have you had problems too?
I do remember it being alluded to, but don't know the details. Is she away for an unrelated reason?
I've not had problems, or unusual messages from any posters. My problems relate to what is going on around here, & in particular making sure my anonymity is retained, particularly with issues going on at work right now (& since last year). It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
