When is Fir home as the rest bit will be tricky without him. Bless mauve squeaker, she is probably so pleased with herself.
...pink whistley will have caught it I suspect;) mauve squeaker will have requisitioned it.;). Still proud of her self though :rotfl:
So, I have managed to get dogs out , they are very annoyed with no walk at all, even a short amble, and so are running around house barking instead. Cannot blame them.
Normally I'd push on and try and at least egg them around the house or so etching, but I really want to be able to walk while away.

At least now I know which direction to head for.
On foot would be best - I bet even me, on foot, would get higher/quicker compared to being in a car as everybody would be in their car heading for higher ground.
I'm at 535'
Does that make me safe? I can get to 650 in a five minute brisk walk, then i'd be too knackered to make it up to 980'. Can I take the car? That would be easy.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Safe from a tsunami, yes. The Yellowstone Supervolcano would still get you though.... or the asteroid they'll discover in the coming month, that nobody spotted before, that's about to hit and wipe out the whole world.0 -

And then the renters and spenders will have the last laugh over the thrifty and homeownersI think....0 -

Suspect this is going to take months at this rate....
I feel your pain. The DKs and I are about to spend two days tackling the dozens of boxes of randomly shuffled stuff in the playroom. This will be made a LOT more difficult by not being able to get rid of practically anything until DD's counsellor makes more progress with her compulsive hoarding disorder.I assume there is some sort of system in place. Mass text messages? Police/army in cars with loud speakers.
Not sure how well that would work if a tsunami threatened the entire coastline. They do have arrangements for door to door evacuation procedures, but mostly in this country flooding happens rather more gradually and you can see the water rising in time to get out of the way.PasturesNew wrote: »I doubt it. I'm on no text list - nor would I notice it'd arrived. Police/army in cars with loud speakers can't easily cover every house/road in 2.5-3 hours from being told themselves across an area, say, 150 miles long and 2 miles inland.
Where I am, here, would be swamped probably ... it's quite low lying - and the wave would just go inland here by probably 5-6 miles.
If you are in a flood zone, you can sign up for warnings from the Environment Agency.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I'm at 328'. But then not being in a flood zone was in my "essential" criteria list. I was in Gloucestershire in 2007, and am not likely to forget it. (We weren't flooded out, but several of my friends were, and of course we were without mains water like everybody else. I still have bottled water in the garage, even though I know it's monumentally unlikely that that particular thing will ever happen again. Last time it took about 2 days before they had the army out to supply us with water. I have enough bottled water to keep us going for longer than that.)Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I dosed myself with this at about 10.30pm last night unfortunately the extra long lie down did not result in sleep, I think the addition of several lime slices to the drink made it a 'health food' thereby giving me the unwanted side effect of being alert at 2am.0 -

Did you confuse gin for coffee perhaps?
RICE is a take as required treatment but it is important not to confuse medicines.
Coffee is generally brown and hot whereas gin is clear and cold.0 -

Hope you're feeling better this morning LiR!
I've literally just got into the office but still super tired, so trying not to do the same today.PasturesNew wrote: »Safe from a tsunami, yes. I'm 69m above sea level although higher than the town centre, but don't know exactly where it's calculated.I dosed myself with this at about 10.30pm last night unfortunately the extra long lie down did not result in sleep, I think the addition of several lime slices to the drink made it a 'health food' thereby giving me the unwanted side effect of being alert at 2am.
