Firstly, it'll start registering on social media within the hour, with footage etc uploaded.
But .... what is notice? Notice is it coming onto the telly when you've got it on .... or being online when word spreads and spotting it.
Not much notice at 1am when you're in the land of nod.
Princess Diana died about 1am. First I knew of it was about 5pm the following day - I'd not had the telly on.
I assume there is some sort of system in place. Mass text messages? Police/army in cars with loud speakers.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I doubt it. I'm on no text list - nor would I notice it'd arrived. Police/army in cars with loud speakers can't easily cover every house/road in 2.5-3 hours from being told themselves across an area, say, 150 miles long and 2 miles inland.
Where I am, here, would be swamped probably ... it's quite low lying - and the wave would just go inland here by probably 5-6 miles.0 -

I'm guessing the police would go door to door in the event that they wanted a mass evacuation. They wouldn't need to get people too far in this country.
I found this map, you can also link to one of the UK. The impact on Florida is quite scary:

You obviously haven't seen the highly realistic Hollywood documentary "2012" where the tsunami, having consumed the whole of India, comes flying over the top of the Himalayas (but somehow Africa is left completely unaffected).0 -

In the programme, when it came to the Caribbean, they did say of a couple of the islands that there's a HUGE mountain that'd stop the wave wiping out the island. Trouble is, the people live between the mountain and the sea and the roads are so poor they couldn't actually get the other side of it in time.0 -

Mine cost me I think about £5 or £10 second hand....18 years ago. I know it wasn't much, it could always have been nothing as I always get confused between that and the table. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

As my parents live on the sea front in the area affected by the big floods, they receive a phone call telling them when there is a flood warning.
We also have an alarm system for catastrophies here too, a leftover from when we had the big gas thingies outside the docks. It's now used as an evacuation alarm in case of chemical spills etc at the docks. We made it! Apparently a tsunami is a 1 in 400 year event in Sydney. It's mostly built on a cliff so it's only places like Bondi that would go and they're all tourists there anyway so nobody would be that fussed about them.0

My geese are grump today. It took an hour to move them. In the end they simply came into the garden and are thrilled I have put them there again. I think maybe we have a fox in the Cake scrub again and its spooked them yesterday, they were really set against compliance.0

What sensible geese you have. How can you persuade the fox to go away?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Does Kiwi have any fox chasing genes in him?
Back from 2 days in the NP heartland and a trip to Goring to take some customers out - had one of the best meals I've had for a long time in the Miller of Mansfield - need to find an excuse to go back!0
