But if I get nicked for something I didn't do, I'd like someone to be a Le to come and help me even if it's 6pm on a Friday :(

You'd get a duty solicitor. When I said solicitors I meant the sort that already has met you 3-4 times and has all your case notes in a big file.

For a random arresting you'd get a duty solicitor.

I've never been arrested ... so no idea about solicitors beyond buying houses really :)

In that case though I'd be paying my favourite solicitor for their time anyway though? Again, not really sure how that all works, but know whether or not I'd done what I was in trouble for I'd be waiting for representation before talking.

I think people making the big, grown up, commitment of buying a house should consider very carefully a whether it is sensible arranging competing for a Friday. Even more so if it's just before a bank holiday.

But we don't need a loaf of bread at 4am. Nor do I need to phone a company to enquire if my order for a dress has been despatched, nor do I need to go into the local library at midnight (although evenings/weekends would be good).

It's a balance between life and limb need ..... and first world wants.

I agree. As I work in a library, front line staff expect to work weekends. Tbf I enjoy having a day off in the week instead, when nobody else is in the shops. AIUI under current law, you can't be made to work Sundays in a library though, so it requires different permissions. Something to do with how the Sunday working laws are structured as we are not classed as a retail outlet, so you have to explicitly agree to do it.

Sunday Library opening is popular though, so I would imagine it will roll out, albeit slowly in some places and probably not to small libraries. Saturday working is normal though.

I know about conveyancing solicitors, probate solicitors, personal injury solicitors and divorce solicitors. At one point I had one of each of those 4 kinds.

It was never a problem to me that they were only available during normal working hours, although of course because my own hours are irregular, I could use my time off during the week to phone them and/or go to their offices. It's true that I frequently phoned my probate solicitor during evenings and weekends, but that was only because he's my brother. If he hadn't been, I'd have managed fine with office hours availability.
I specifically 'demanded' mine to be on a Wednesday. Sellers choice was a Friday. For those with just 20 days' bookable annual leave/year a Friday seems most sensible as they've got the "whole weekend" to get straight.

I wanted a Wednesday [a] to be sure/in case of issues because any removal arrangements I'd make might be cheaper (although I arranged for my stuff to move on the Thursday).

I had the luxury of time on my side.

The chain above me wanted to complete on a Friday, so I went along with that. Then I stayed in my rented house for a few weeks while I got the new boiler fitted and the walls insulated and other disruptive stuff like that. I actually moved in over the Monday/Tuesday at the beginning of half term week, so as to maximise the time to sort stuff out before I had to go back to work. And then I kept the rented house for another couple of weeks to the end of the rental month to give us time to clean it once it was empty.

I feel for people who sell to buy and have to do the whole thing in a day. If I stay in this house for the rest of my life, I'll never have to do that, and that would be fine by me!

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Since I have cut the lawn, I have noticed that there's a distinct track across it where the foxes patrol. It's strange how narrow the track is. They follow the same route to within a couple of centimetres all the time. There's actually two tracks that converge in a Y shape.

I guess that as the grass got longer the foxes could save energy by following the same track with the grass beaten down. Now that the lawn is fairly short again will they continue along the same track though? It would be interesting to erect a little jump for them nd see whether they go over or round.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Yes, after the stress of just buying (and supposedly no chain), I can't imagine ever buying and selling at the same time by choice.
Another good reason for having maxed out buying this place. No intention of moving again, particularly not whilst I have the neighbours I'm blessed with. Guess the only thing that could change that would be moving job, but where I live is in the middle of a lot of potential other job places so could come instead. I think I'd stay here even if I won the lottery (though I'd be able to get the renovations done a lot more quickly).

 This very much annoys me. Is it really the law that mse is responsible for the comments that are posted? They should use some of millions they make on challenging this sort of thimg. In the mean time they should maintain and publicise a list of companies who have demanded takedown of criticism.

MSE are clear that they don't moderate the forum precisely because they don't want to be responsible for postings.

On the other hand, there are clearly pressures applied behind the scenes.

Madeleine posts get removed regularly, apparently.

And then they themselves will name and shame companies. Our run polls to find out who had the worst customer service etc. I guess when they're writing an article they check facts? And contact the company for a response?

Just trying to build a small canvas covered shoe rack. First of 12 horizontal bars I have to hold in place, then screw into place from the outside, has split.

I'm rubbish at even the simplest of DIY aren't I. This could take 3-4 hours. Been at it 30 minutes already!

I have a pile of shoes by the front door. It really is a pile rather than anything neatly arranged. These are the shoes I wear most regularly - one pair of trainers, one pair of ankle boots, one pair of flip flops, and multiple pairs of flat semi smart (well, not trainers or flip flops) shoes that I wear for work.
I've been trying to think what to do with them.
The shoes I wear less regularly live in my wardrobe. I'm never going to keep all my shoes there through laziness , and I take them off as I enter the house so they need a home near to the front door. Don't really want a shoe rack in the dining or living rooms either.
I've been thinking of building either something into the bottom steps of the staircase, or some kind of shelving in a (very) little corner by the stairs.

Might post a pic at some point and see what you guys suggest.

I reckon they'd be on a sticky wicket using that as a defence against libel. What the heck do I know though.
