Scrap yard for parts? I'd be lucky
They only sold a few thousand of this 4 wheel drive thingy. It's not a bad car, it's just bigger cars are dearer I suppose.0 -
I have a clematis that climbs up my garden fence. I love it.
Congratulations (in advance)!Cucumber sandwiches on flabby white bread, crusts cut off. Love them!
Smoked salmon on brown, with horseradish sauce.
Four cakes is crazily OTT.
I would tend to pass on the scones, though. Unless they have sultanas in.lostinrates wrote: »But if it were your first ever English tea?
Nobody eats four cakes. There just has to be a suitable choice.Just like at dinner parties, you have to offer three puddings though nobody...well, er, yeah, alright, some people do have more than one pudding. But they shouldn't

I wouldn't pay £1 for 5 donuts. Asda are usually about 65p. Yesterday I got 2 bags from co-op for £1. Shared with some extremely grateful nephews! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
They do, but then it turns out that they can't move the stuff. I put quite a lot of stuff on 3cycle. One chap collected for his secondhand shop. Another picked up some good quality furniture but forgot one of the drawers. He never got back to me about that, so I assume he just wanted firewood. I put some flat pack shelves on, and then found myself spending ages dismantling them, so that someone who promised to bring a van could actually get them in the back of her hatchback.
This stuff can't be dismantled, so anybody taking it needs a large van, which as PN knows costs £50 ish. Plus it won't fit up the stairs.
I'm throwing away a pine bed frame that's in good nick and easy to dismantle, but it's a non standard size. Halfway between single and double.
A set of upholstered dining chairs with arms that the charity shop just sniffed at. Not my taste, or we'd have them in place of our kitchen chairs. They are in much better nick then our chairs.
And so on. There is just an endless list of not very convincing reasons why nobody seems to want this stuff. They might take it if we delivered, but there's a limit...
I feel your pain. I abhor waste, and if you weren't so far away, I'd have been round like a shot, as I'm sure there's an item or 2 you may have that I'd need, having just moved in.
Much respect to the 2 posters who have also mentioned how much they hate waste.PasturesNew wrote: »I like a doughnut, but when one costs 60p or a bag of 5 costs a few pence more I feel ripped off at spending £0.60 on one ... so I walk away from the stand.
But, 1-2x a year max, I have been known to spot a bag of doughnuts reduced and slide them into my basket. I then eat them over 2-3 days.
This is part of the obesity problem... it'd be easy for somebody to turn a "one doughnut, occasionally" into a standard item in the basket, with a bag of 5, simply because [a] they're 'better value' in a bag of 5 they're so grabbable on the shelf and so cheap! They'd be an item many would turn into a weekly (or more/everytime) item.
I'm careful that treats are that: a treat is a once a year treat....and not turned into a weekly grocery item, with me telling myself that I deserve 40 treats/week.
An indian takeaway is a treat to me - I think I've had one since I moved in here 10 months ago! Chips from the chippy are a treat and I think I've had those twice in 10 months (even though it's just over the road and good value and they're really good ones).
I say this, having probably had about 6 takeaways in a year - watching the pennies. 2-3 KFC's (I love KFC!), and a couple of chippy's (but usually on the way home from a concert/theatre/comedian).It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
I'm with the KFC liking, even tho its not that good for us.
I had a Maccy D's with the kids after last weekends run, and to be honest it was a fiver of blandness!0 -
Just back from the garage. Apparently, I need a new suspension joint/strut thing. Nothing is ever a few tenners now either. Hundreds more like
Could this be worth a second opinion kabayiri? A new suspension arm for my car plus 1 hour service is £85... other suspension parts are of course available and could cost more but thought I'd sling it into the mix in case it could be useful. My car is probably more common. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Dealer prices an arm on my car is probably 300 quid (plus VAT). Eurocarparts price plus independent labour probably 130 - Viva you are cheapI think....0

The part I needed was £35, plus 1 hours servicing at £50. I've had a few suspension bits fitted and none of them have been particularly expensive. I am sure it all adds up mind.
In this instance, I like being called cheapPlease stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? It's basically a Mitsubishi 4 wheel drive thing. I know the baseline price because the other side had to be done 18 months back.
Cunningly, DW "flogged" me the car before she had to stump up.
I'll get her backJust wait until she sees the price of her run-flat tyres on her new car. Will I be sympathetic? Hell no
