Illness, won't have helped CK, but there's only so long you can work at the rate you have been doing before it catches up. I used to laugh in the face of 20 hour days, now15 max and that needs recovery time.
I've always been able to do a few weeks of 14-15h days, but it seems that it's not possible even.
I know I say this every year, but it's probably going to be my last 'big' Eurovision this year, as I want to spend more time with my DD's, and 500 hours of prep on top of my standard work, then 2 weeks away really isn't helpful for that.
My phone seems to have stopped working for some reason this morning, so I need to get this sorted, too.I have never had a home-made doughnut, lir's are sounding very elegant, not a word normally associated with doughnuts, which are invariably disappointing.
I still prefer Dorringtons if I'm honest to just about anything.💙💛 💔0 -

Mother-In-Law started falling repeatedly. She had lost her sense of balance. At the same time, she just refused to eat very much. With hindsight, we can see that this was all linked to the dementia. At the same time, she had a tendency to get up and go for a walk around the house whenever she felt like it. Unfortunately, she often got no more than 2 or 3 paces before falling over.
Again, with the benefit of hindsight, I can see that there was absolutely nothing that could be done about it. We installed a bed alarm, which sounds a buzzer if the old lady gets out of bed. However, it only went off once she was out of bed, giving plenty of opportunity to fall over before anyone could get to her.
The only thing that definitely would have worked would have been to have somebody sitting next to her 24/7.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Drooling, good luck with it and let me know how you get on.

I can't believe how "anti" some people are about the new Apple Watch.
If you don't like it, *dont buy it*, would be my advice!
I'm not sure it's useful for me, purely because I have an Android phone.
It isn't so expensive either. What's the service cost of a Rolex nowadays? £600 ?
...makes the iWatch look reasonable.0 -
PN, I'm probably out of the loop here, but have you had a health check?0

I've seen that done - either it was illegal or there was some sort of precedent. I presume the latter, possibly naively.
I'm not sure what the option is, if some sort of restraint isn't possible - repeated falls or pay someone to stay there 24 hours? One of those situations where nothing you do is an attractive option.0 -
I expect there's reasons why this wouldn't work, or it's been tried already, or something, but ...
Could the bed be made more difficult to get out of? I'm thinking of a hospital bed where you can put the sides up. So the person wouldn't actually be restrained, but might think, "There's these rails in the way and I don't know how to operate them. I'll call for help for somebody to let the rails down." Then there would be more likely to be a staff member on hand when the patient/resident was trying to get up.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
They do, but then it turns out that they can't move the stuff. I put quite a lot of stuff on 3cycle. One chap collected for his secondhand shop. Another picked up some good quality furniture but forgot one of the drawers. He never got back to me about that, so I assume he just wanted firewood. I put some flat pack shelves on, and then found myself spending ages dismantling them, so that someone who promised to bring a van could actually get them in the back of her hatchback.
This stuff can't be dismantled, so anybody taking it needs a large van, which as PN knows costs £50 ish. Plus it won't fit up the stairs.
I'm throwing away a pine bed frame that's in good nick and easy to dismantle, but it's a non standard size. Halfway between single and double.
A set of upholstered dining chairs with arms that the charity shop just sniffed at. Not my taste, or we'd have them in place of our kitchen chairs. They are in much better nick then our chairs.
And so on. There is just an endless list of not very convincing reasons why nobody seems to want this stuff. They might take it if we delivered, but there's a limit...
I have just sold DD's bed and wardrobe. She wants a double. I was seriously considering buying a 'small double' to be more practical. Have you chopped it up yet? Can I have a pic, please, if not? Doozer has a Mini these days but if it's worth hiring a van for, maybe we could relieve you of it? I really hate waste now.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Likewise if there is a pic of the dining chairs...
Edit: realise I should have thought of this a lot earlier. Sorry0 -
PasturesNew wrote: ȣ600 to service a watch? Oh my .... and I didn't even know that people had watches serviced! I spend less than that getting my car serviced once a year (then wince at the price) ..... not that I'll ever actually SEE a Rolex in my lifetime, so it's immaterial how much some rich bugg4h in their castle's spending on getting one serviced
Yep, £500 to £600 and it's every 5 years I think.
Doesn't affect me. £30 watch here - I spend more on the running watch.
They have you all ways up too PN.
*If* you don't get your watch serviced it lacks that full service history which keeps the second hand value.
When you read a thread about men and watches, some get so precious about it! It is just male jewellery at the end of the day IMO. Fair enough, if that's your bag.0 -
Just back from the garage. Apparently, I need a new suspension joint/strut thing. Nothing is ever a few tenners now either. Hundreds more like0
