Yes, correct Lydia.
I think it's academic though. I don't believe my friend will ever bother with a partner now.
...She has a cat - that's enough, isn't it?0 -

Not for me. I have two kids and will be getting a dog this summer - I've always preferred dogs to cats and now couldn't have a cat anyway, having been allergic to them since I was about 19. However, I'm certainly not in the "won't bother with a partner" category. I'm by no means desperate, though. Perhaps "would like a partner but he'd have to be be a really promising prospect to make me take the plunge again" describes me best. I am not particularly optimistic about the probability of such an eligible type turning up on the (mostly second hand) market for the over-40s, but you never know...Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
"(mostly second hand) market"
Well phrased
I understand where you are coming from. I guess many people over 40 will come with a life story attached in some form.0 -

All of 'em, I should imagine. Including me, of course.
The almost invariable response of people hearing my life story is a short pause followed by "I don't know what to say". :rotfl:Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Fabulous
Eventful day to report on here.
Inspired by Sue + son I found the courage to weigh myself at the gym at work.
Good news - I've not actually put on any weight since the last time I weighed myself (start of Feb), and my % body fat has allegedly decreased slightly (might be because I'd just done a class/ natural variation - would be amazed if that was 'real').
Bad news - that means I've been [STRIKE]walking [/STRIKE] waddling around like this for at least 3 months
Bumped into a neighbour who's an electrician... plucked up the courage to mention the socket that was crackling last night.
Bad news - he probably thinks I'm an idiot
Good news - it all seems fine. Might just have had some dust in it.
Got heckled walking back from town
Bad news - wasn't exactly a pleasant experience
Good news - I guess at least it means I'm not completely invisible
And it's only Monday!0 -
I thought I'd be a bit of a pining mess today. Instead I enjoyed peace and quiet, did a delicates wash that came out smelling amazingly good, and ate leftovers for lunch.
Fir went to new job where HR only needed him for two hours and his people were not expecting him today, bit of an anticlimax. By sheer coincidence his father was in London just for today for an interview so fir called him and said he had been wrong when he said he couldn't meet today, so they met for lunch then interviewer met them where they'd had lunch and hearing fir was at a loose end interviewer insisted fir stay. Then he tried to go to the British museum but they were already chucking people out.and so he's just mooched around a bit.

Catching up with the thread:
Noticed my the first hint of pink on the roses at the front of my house yesterday. I'm not the biggest fan of rose plants (quite like the cut flowers mind you!), but they look fabulous when they're in bloom. This year was the first year of me having a go at pruning them (as opposed to just chopping back) so hopefully they'll look even better than last year
I prefer experiences to 'things' as presents in general too. Though I got some lovely, thoughtful gifts from friends this year (despite me saying I'd prefer just a card).
No cats here (there are enough in the neighbourhood though). But I do have a steadily increasing collection of cardigans0 -

Oh, you're not alone.
I tried to collect my baggage early! The only word that describes my first marriage is chaotic.0 -

You've reminded me I need to speak to electricity provider.
Its not normal these surges we have in the night I'm sure. If I have lazily left tv on standby the light flashes on and off and it whines. Any thing on standby flashes on and off, but I can hear the tv on standby very clearly( compared to it being off, I get used to it if its on...it becomes background whine) , so it coming on and off is uncomfortably noisey.0 -
