If it weren't so "odd", given a choice of front doors it'd be interesting to have one that has a face-sized opening with bars over it, like you see in films in places like Morocco.... when people knock on those doors the little mini-door at face height is opened (and it's covered with bars) and they speak, then decide whether to open the door.

That is the advantage of a peephole combined with windows set high, you can creep up to the door and survey the bell ringer and retreat without feeling obliged to answer.

Safe Tory seat here. Though the LibDem candidate has disgraced herself by not turning up to any hustings and hasn't even been seen in the area.this may have damaged the LibDem vote in the local elections.

The boys started texting last night, to discuss who to vote for, DS2's first election. Just as they started the conversation we boarded a sunset cruise and lost wifi, so no opportunity to join in.

    Very strange.

I'll be voting. It was instilled in me how important it is when I was a small child and my uncle took me along and told me all about it. I had to wait outside though.

It's an attempt to stop UKIP getting the seat.

It will go either Tory or UKIP, and out of not liking either so much, I'd prefer Mr Prisk.

We've had a lot of chancers ringing up or banging on the door trying to raise money or 'Nepal' (yeah right).

My reply to people at the door when they explain what they are doing has changed from gratuitous abuse to a stock answer of, "Well that's absolutely splendid, I wish you the very best with your endeavours and wouldn't want to waste another moment of your time".

The worst is when I answer the in-Laws' phone as someone, somewhere has got them down as a soft touch. They get several calls a day asking for money for a 'charity'.

When I see what is happening in Nepal it makes me hope that any God is an Old Testament-style vengeful god and will smite down with furious vengeance (or whatever the phrase is) on people that seek to profit at the expense of people that have lost everything.

TBH I think I'd quite like UKIP if it wasn't for the racist and EU things. Unfortunately those are the main/only real policies.

They talk a lot of sense on the economy from what I've seen.

I'm in the same position with them.

It's looking like they won't get a majority anyway, but this is a seat I'm not so sure about. Our MP at the moment can be emailed, and something will be done about whatever.

I'm not sure a UKIP MP would have quite the same effect.

Every MP I've had has ignored every communication I've tried to have with them; by letter, email or POTS.

I can't remember who it is but I have a book written by a current political journalist on the UK political system which talks about how many or most MPs took great pride in ignoring their constituents and indeed looked down on the younger ones (prolly now in their 50s) that engaged with their constituents other than at election time.

Best to take a phone with the emergency number dialled in missing the last did bit so you only have two buttons to press. In a real situation most of us are more likelY to find anything taken as a weapon against those more determined or more violent than us, is likely to be wrenched from us and used upon us. Here endeth the public warning message for today.

I am married to a ninja, which helps. I get more concerned when the ninja is away. If anyone tried to break into tifosi towers they would be in for a shock. 1) because they'd probably meet the ninja, and 2) there's not a lot worth stealing for the amount of effort involved.

Lib Dems for local, Tories for Parliamentary, but secretly hope Labour are in power nationally.

    I know, I'm strange

Ok, not doing the Labour bit, but strangely, my voting patterns will be the same, but for different reasons. I have little faith in party politics or the ability to get a straight answer out of most of them (with the exception of Farage and possibly Boris). However we have a really good incumbent Lib Dem councillor. Every time I've had to have dealings with him, he's come through for me. Similarly I have a very good parliamentary MP who has done the same. I've had to contact him three times and each time he's changed things that I've suggested and for the better of people locally. I don't think you can ask for much more. So in these crazy times I'm voting for safe hands on the tillers.

When I see the TV I am amazed by the stoic resilience that the Nepalis are showing. It's a good test of what people think of the aid budget when somewhere like Nepal has problems. Nepalis have stood by us for years and it's our turn to give back. Hearing that people are trying to scam people out of money off the back of that is sickening.

I've mentioned before, I know my local UKIP candidate. He's a great guy and 100% not a racist. He's a businessman and interested in the economy and policies for small business. Unfortunately I don't feel the same about the rest of his cohort.
