The original ring started out at £1600 and in the end my partner got it for £400, with the help of a sale and a few discount codes. We bought a house around a year ago and are putting a lot of money into that to make it into a home, so I never considered an expensive ring an option (although some may feel £400 is still super expensive!). I love sapphires and although I've never even owned a ring before, loved the idea of having such a different ring and the price made it even more fantastic. The second ring was a slightly more expensive £999 down from £1999, but is from H Samuels, which is a company I would have preferred to stay away from (don't ask me why!).
I should add that the ring I tried in store was literally the exact same ring but with rubies instead of sapphires and in a yellow gold (rather than silver). We went for a feel of the size so we could order the right one in.
Georgiegirl, that's a lovely story about the ring your partner bought you...I suppose if my partner had bought this off his own back, I would have loved it regardless. The fact I bought it makes me feel like I've made the wrong choice.
Ha ha, don't be daft, you're not a diva really.......just a crazy girl in lurve!
And I don't think £400 is a lot for an engagement ring. Even £1600 isn't stupidly high. It's a lot, but not stupidly high, (especially if the man can afford it!) The only thing I think is bonkers mad is people who have one for 5 grand and take it out on finance! Your engagement ring in 36 easy monthly instalments of £138. :rotfl:
I have known someone do this and the engagement was broken off after 3 months, and he still had to pay for the ring over 3 years!
Anyhoo, why not get the first ring (if you can't cancel it or whatever,) and sell it. If there is 75% off, and you are getting a £1600 ring for £400, you will surely get your money back!' (Maybe ebay???)Just simply explain what happened if someone asks. Telling the truth is often the best option, and you can't go wrong, because you won't trip yourself up if you're honest!
And then get this other ring that you REALLY want.
Hope you'll both be happy!
Off out bank holiday shopping now!cooeeeeeeeee :j :wave:0 -
I changed my mind about my engagement ring after being married for over a year! I picked out a lovely tourmaline ring with diamond shoulders when we got engaged. We wanted our wedding rings to match so I figured I wouldnt mind that the rings didnt sit "properly" together. Turns out that I did mind so whilst my original was in for repair I asked DH if I could get a ring that would sit flush against my wedding ring. I've now got a trilogy ring to wear with my wedding band and my original ring is worn on my right hand.0

Am I the only one that wants photos?!
I am very good at wanting what I haven't got, is it possible that you want the second for similar reasons? Sounds like you've got it good trying bothI like sapphire and diamond combos, so perhaps shouldn't ask for photos as probably know which I will prefer!

Seeing as you asked so nicely
First ring -
18 carat white gold, 0.33 carat total weight of stones
Second contender -
18 carat white gold, 0.38 carat diamond.
Opinions welcomed
I did have a discussion with my other half this evening. He said that in the event that I don't like the first ring when we go to see it, he is happy for us to go ring hunting afterwards to see if we can find anything else. He is pretty fantastic.0 -
The first one is lovely, Id much prefer that.0

The first one is much nicer IMO. It has much more about it than the second one which to me (no offence to anyone who has a solitaire) is just pretty plain and bog standard.
Even though I don't really wear jewellery, a ring that is a different style and different stones always catches my eye. I'm not a fan of solitaires.
Eta: The first one will probably sit better against your wedding ring too.0 -
You're fantastic, thank you. You're starting to make me remember why I loved it in the first place!
My partner said although he could tell I liked the second one, he didn't really like the fact it was H Samuel branded (which it is). He said he doesn't want to appear snobbish but didn't want to pay a premium on the high street for something which was priced up a fair bit, when he could go to a smaller seller and get something much better. I love the idea of a tiny diamond on the inside but don't like the phrasing "forever".
The woman who showed me the second ring in the picture said she thought the first one would be really hard to fit with a wedding band...one of the things which made me worry. I'm glad you think otherwise, Georgiegirl0 -
I love them both!
I see what the ladies are saying though. The second one seems a 'tad' more bland. I love the sapphires in the first one.
However, the first one looks a bit more like an eternity ring to me; the second one looks more like how I would imagine an engagement ring to look like.
HOWEVERRRRR, as Georgie says, the first one will sit next to your wedding ring better.
Tricky one.
If the second one was smaller and had a sapphire in, I would say that for sure. (As it looks more like an engagement ring than the first IMO.)
Not much help am I? :rotfl:
Why not do what someone said earlier in the thread. Have both!(•_•)
