If you're interested, say so, directly. There are plenty of us chaps that absolutely cannot "read the signs" and have no idea if a woman is interested in anything more than friendship. I'm one of them. If a woman I knew asked to meet for coffee and a chat, I would assume she wanted coffee and a chat, because that is what she said, not that she was potentially interested in a romantic relationship.
We live in a society where the law guarantees equality, so there is no law saying that the man has to do the asking.

Add him to facebook, see if he adds you, chat to him for a bit, then ask if he'd like to go for a coffee one lunchtime. Don't make a big thing out of it because its not.., that's in the future, if you both want the same thing. Anything could happen. Deal with what is.., you'd like to meet up and have a chat.
