I guess it depends on the method used and the girl really. In that case I'd been up dancing in a bar with a friend and these two guys got dancing with us. My friends and I then were leaving the bar and one of the guys asked me to stay, I said no but gave him my number instead. We did go on to date for a time but he turned out to be a bit of a daftie and still in love with his ex.

I personally wouldn't have any problem with a chap starting a conversation with me in a bar and asking for my number as long as it was clear there was a mutual attraction. I wouldn't suggest just walking up to a girl and breaking the ice with a 'can I have your number', but have a chat, buy her a drink and if it's going well then ask. But I guess everyone is different.

I should add that I was propositioned on a bus home from a night out a few weeks back. I was chatting to people on the bus (I did say I was friendly) and one of the guys turned to me and said he would 'smash me', he then asked if he should get off the bus in his village or stay on till mine. His face was a picture of shock when I said no thanks. Does anyone actually think this is acceptable? Am I horrifically old fashioned?

    You guys are wonderful seriously.
    God bless you all.

And to the OP, 38 is not too old.
    You're mature. Meet nice people.
A lot of lovely ladies here.
I wish you all the best luck and happiness.
And may you find your partner. :)

Hopefully someone from here. So we all can get an invite to a wedding sponsored by MSE. :D

    Enjoy.

I wouldn't have had a clue what he was on about.

My understanding is that it was some kind of 'best night of your life' type of offer.

I think it would be more of best night of his life offer, whether you would think the same is up for questioning. :rotfl:

So, it's not that I cannot afford a subscription, it's that I have better things to spend that money on and believe that they charge way too much.

If you met the love of your life through the site would you consider it money well spent?

I met my husband after advertising in a national newspaper's 'lonely hearts' column as they were called then in the days before internet dating. Took 3 attempts at over £100 an advert but I'd rather have my man than that money. It cost him the price of a first class stamp.

Exactly, the OP is never going to even get a chance to meet someone with whom to start a family the way they are carrying on, and dating sites do what they say in the tin.

Agree wholeheartedly. I spent £60 on a three-month subscription to the Guardian's dating site three years ago and I'm now marrying the love of my life who I met on there!
