lexi's right. A rabbit will batter a Piggy to death with its powerful hind legs.

Pet shops love to pull on our heart strings and sell us one guinea pig and one rabbit.

I loved my guinea pigs. To keep their nails short we put their run half on the grass and half on a path. You'll need to socialise them from babies but they make great pets, so friendly. If you give them something to nibble on this keeps their teeth down too, saves on vet bills. I'm all for moneysaving! Ours went mad for dandilion leaves too. I want one now!!
All the best with your little pigs.

Please consider buying 2 females rather than 2 males if you are going to buy two. I bought 2 sets of males for 2 cages, bought them from the same litter at the same time, and both sets decided to fight really badly. The fur really did fly, resulting in one piggy having its throat bitten by the other piggy (then later developed an abcess because of this which cost a fortune to treat by the vet and caused the piggy great distress as the abcess needed to be lanced off), the other injured male piggy got bitten on the nose and was bleeding! I had to rehome two of the piggies and keep one male in each cage. I've been told that male piggy fighting is rare, but clearly not so rare in my experience!

Agree with all of the above and am glad to read that the GP will be your pet too, 5 years olds can "love" a pet to death if you know what I mean.... happy piggin'

I have 4 males - they fought at first but now the are best buddies. My kids- 2, 5 and 7 love them to pieces- they live indoors too.

    hi,

I've recently bought a ginuea pig; he's gorgeous!!

I'm worried he might be lonely though as I only got the one, he's very playful but there's not a lot he can do alone. His siblings will have gone to other homes now but i'm wondering whether I could just buy any male - I doubt they recognise each other! or maybe a female. I'm concerned they may breed though and i'm not sure what I would do with the babies - would pet shops be interested do you think?

    Thanks

Don't breed! there are enough unwanted animals without adding to them.

I had two males who lived happily (OK, the odd skirmish!) for about 8 years.

If you don't get another, then just make sure that you handle him often and if you have a grass patch then let him out in a run. They love grass and fresh air!

He's handled everyday, sometimes he just sits on the sofa or plays at making tunnels in a blanket. Were your males related? Did you buy them at the same time?

if you are getting another GP then i would get one sooner rather than later as sometimes they can be harder to bond when older.
Alternatively if you wanted a female pig then there are vets around that have small animal certificates and they perform neutering/ spaying on GPs.

yes I thought sooner rather than later too ... how much would it be to have a GP neutured/catrated do you think?
