Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Finally able to declare a NSD, think only my 2nd so far this month. I think doing the big shop on sunday has really helped as no need to buy food on the way home tonight.

Hi everyone, thanks for sharing your demons, I'm touched by people sharing them with us, it's good to know you're not alone. We've got to put our demons to work for us now - Stewby and Caeraugirl (sorry, got mixed up and put Bob originally) maybe you could call yours the Funhouse Mirror, because it distorts your image of yourself and how you appear to others (when you bad-mouth yourself), but isn't how others see you with their own eyes.

Now when I recognise my self-sabotage, I say "ah-ha, le saboteur is at it again" and once I realise it's happening and have called him out and belittled him a bit (he is a very little French man, and I am a very tall lady) he seems pretty silly. I have then committed to setting a timer for five minutes and writing down why I don't want to do the thing I'm putting off, what positive things I will get from doing it, and, if I still need help, what reward I can have when it's done. I'm using a timer because otherwise this itself could spiral into a lengthy procrastination episode! Hopefully it will work :o

Being a harsh critic/judge of yourself could be helped by assessing the evidence for and against your beliefs - so if someone tells you voluntarily that you are good at your job, and you think they are just trying to be nice, then look objectively at that. If they know and respect you they wont keep saying that to be nice as they will want to be honest and genuine with you - so chances are that you rock at your job! More concrete things like pay rises, good appraisals, being asked to take on extra tasks or ones they know you are good at, are even stronger evidence as it's unlikely that someone would give you them just to be nice, especially in the current climate! In these assessments you are an 'unreliable witness' as it's hard to be objective about yourself, so the evidence you provide will always be weaker than the evidence of others. Perhaps the way to make that work for you is seeing that you are not at the other end of the spectrum thinking you are perfection personified - which means you are more able to take opportunities to develop and improve because you accept that you have some room for growth, as we all do, and have enough awareness of it to take action if you choose to.

Sorry if I've gone off on a tangent with this topic, but I don't think anyone is weird or rambling for sharing, it makes you all more human than a bunch of letters on a screen :)

In other news, I think my only spend has been putting petrol in the courtesy car on Friday to go home and see my family. My aunty fell teaching her granddaughter how to do double bumps with a skipping rope! Then her daughter passed out in A&E in sympathy when they were manipulating the injured skipping arm. THEN they finally got home and got an SOS from my grandma who had fallen and broken her hip, and went back to A&E with her in an ambulance for 7 more hours! Three generations of Calamity Janes, all in one day :o

    Well done WelshKitty! :j

Stewby - thank you for sharing your demon, it resonates with me a lot too. I love my fitibit too, which one did you get? Do you want to be friends on fitbit?

Hello lovely turtles! Just to let you know that I'm going to have to reluctantly bow out of this challenge for April and possibly May - finishing my uni course is taking all my time, attention and sleep at the moment :D

Hope it goes well for everyone - will be cheering you all on!

Good luck with the rest of your course.

Then I get really upset when people refer to my faults, when in reality they're just following my lead, which gives them "permission" to slate me, as I do it myself......

I do this all the time! I am constantly pointing out what I think are my faults but anyone else who mentions them deeply offends me, even though I think these things about myself.
The credit card has been cleared!

    Congratulations, that's fantastic :)

Today was a spendy day as I need to get on a diet, so bought some fresh healthy food (I also needed to pump up my tyres so did that at the same time). Linking in with the mentioning of photos earlier, I am bridesmaid in July and have my first and only dress fitting in May, and the other bridesmaids and bride are tiny. I used to be tiny, although I never thought I was, and currently hate wearing anything except my onesie and a hoodie. I want to feel confident on the wedding day and to have some nice photos too. Anyways, mope over, I'm in my onesie at the moment so I'm semi-happy.

Syn - you are very wise, that all made perfect sense to me. I like the idea of not trusting my own opinion about myself but taking note of what others say instead :) Hope your aunt, cousin and gran are all ok and back home after their A&E visits!

  • Hello all! I am back from Berlin and I *think* I'm caught up with the thread - you've all been busy turtles!
Berlin was fab and we came in 140 Euros under budget(!!!) - partly because I realised early on that there's very little I can eat over there! Everything seemed to be dairy-fied :( so I made do with some small meals that were relatively safe, and we didn't have any extravagant meals out, so we saved quite a bit. I say "relatively safe", because I have definitely been dairy-ed, as I feel pretty rotten today!
Was worried that I would have to buy food at work today as we got home at 10 last night, but my lovely mum had left me some bread and some sandwich meat, so took that to work instead :) still a spendy day as I needed some compost to re-pot my petunias, nicotianas, lobelias and marigolds for the garden! Also got some peppers, chillis, aubergine, strawberry and three types of tomatoes growing, so summer should be nice and cheap food-wise!!
Hope everyone has had a lovely day in the sunshine :)
Bought my first house in 2014 - now, to be mortgage free! :D

    Evening all,

We all seem busy and quiet today?

Today has been a spendy day as the lovely weather meant I succumbed to the lure of the first beef burger of the year (cooked in the grill as it was too chilly and dark by the time OH was home). However I did do tutoring and have paid it off my debt so I am now only £86 away from getting below 5k :j I am very excited for that day, its my next major milestone.

Does anybody have any suggestions for plants for the garden that are safe for dogs, but preferably won't encourage them to eat them? I have two empty flowerbeds and would like to start some plants growing in them soon.

    Hi guys

Sorry for no check in. Migraine plaguing me since yesterday lunchtime.

WelshKitty congrats on being CC dent free! :D

SOA take care of you and come back when you can! Good luck in finalising your course hun. x

Calling yay for being close to 5k.. keep on going!! :D

I've had a SFD today. But yesterday was spendy. not outrageously so and it came out of a specific pot for Jellytots Easter Holidays. Grand total of £7.27 got us drinks, entry to soft play, a balloon and 3 rides on a spaceship. Much fun was had and wore her out which was the aim of the game. Todays activity was pre-chosen and again didn't really take a migraine into account so somehow I got through baking fairy cakes then decorating them with homemade chocolate icing and chocolate beans to create muddy puddles :) Jelly again enjoyed it and it was all dairy free so she was happy indeed munching at the spoils and licking the icing spoon.

Am back off to sleep now.

Caeraugirl thanks for the MSE poster link. I did in fact think about printing my own at work as we have an a3 tray ;) I liked the A3 size and the frame might be a bit expensive! I will have a look. Got to provide some birthday present ideas as so far I've asked for a set of white crockery and told my mum to get it with doubled up Nectar points so a £30 set was £15 of points ;) she was happy!

Have a good one turtles. Am back at work tomorrow so have to go to sleep!! xx
