The rules are quite simple and going on about what the dailymail website is saying. If you have a child that is disabled your benefits do not get capped. You get £20 a week child benefit then £13 for the others. £650 a month then you add the tax credits £2800 a month. depending on the amount of children with disability's the weekly figure for that childs tax credits is doubled. My guess is that she is also getting £60 a week c/a about £280 a month.

I guess the issue is that the rules are open to abuse and that really the money should be for the children and not buying £900 handbags. Should we ban people having 10 kids? 12 kids? 20 kids? should we say that you only get CB and TC for the first 3 kids and any more you get nothing. is that putting kids in hardship because of the parents?

We look to the government to create the rules for the society we live in. I quite pleased I don't make the rules and the laws. Because I don't think you can make the right choice.

an example, someone said she should be prosecuted for what she has done, what if she has done nothing wrong and is playing the system because in fact that is the rules. Are we saying we want to create a law that playing the system would be illegal? How would you prove this? are we saying that if you get benefits, buying a £900 pound handbag would be illegal. I cant see that being fair. is a £90 handbag ok? its just a shame that these people do what they do because 99% of people don't do this.

Are we saying that we should restrict the benefits for the mass because of the few. I guess that is my take on this. While I agree that what she is doing is wrong. I also see the point that people are in need. I would hate because of this person it would hurt others in need.

(I see someone has said about no disabilities are involved, I guess my point is still the same)

I agree with you poppy. Just meant if she was doing anything illegal she should be prosecuted. If all is above board then I guess the objection is to how she spends her child benefit. Ho hum.

11 kids though. I couldn't even contemplate one :rotfl: :o

Cooked a lovely leg of lamb for dinner. Just have to wait until 6pm now. It smells so good!

I have to say I have enjoyed a few days away from the shops. It's done us all good.

We took our girls to Legoland on Saturday for dd2's birthday. We all had a brilliant time.

I do indeed think benefits should be limited to the first 3 children. If people know that benefits will be limited they are hopefully more likely to think twice before having more than 3 children. There is of course the problem of people who already have more than 3 children, but the restriction needs to start somewhere. I only have one child because that is all I can afford to support. I only get child benefit. No tax credits. No child support.

Benefits have their place, but they cannot be bottomless. And yes, not everyone on benefits takes the mick, but if would stop those that do if the ways to do so were limited.

    It boils my urine.

We would love more children but we know that
    A) we can not afford to move and our 2 girls already share a room
    B) we can not afford a bigger car - we have a golf
    C) DP already works long and varied hours, to be able to afford more children I would also need to work, but then I would see less of the children I already have.

How is it, that decent hardworking people can not afford a holiday this year but she can have two very expensive ones?

I'd love to have everything for free and have the state pick up my bills but I have morals.

Dippy - I hope you don't think I was digging at people who choose to have a large family and then work hard to support them. Its just the blatant insistence that this woman and her like can have as many as she wants and expect the rest of us to pay for them because it is 'her right'.
tbw-I read about her re the bag and then also this and my feelings are the same as yours. Benefits and NHS both brought in by a forward thinking country to catch and save and help those who have fallen on hard times/need a helping hand for a while/ are unable to work right now but want to. benefits..temporary measures. NHS..quite right for a first world democratic country to look after its people...work, pay into the system and believe that when you have need the system will help you.
    BUT
now we have people who think its their right, think of benefits as a way of life etc etce

I have nothing but sympathy (and a definite feeling of I know whats its like to worry where the next penny is coming from ) for anyone who is just scrapping by, needs a hand from the system, a help up but not this....

I was left with a child of 3 to bring up, overnight, all my money taken etc etc etc etc. Went for help but "No". Why? -too educated, job too good. Didn't matter to them that in my job I was out the house by 7am, getting back at 7pm. In the end I just got on with it and we made do and probably the better for it. We wanted more things-I did extra work.

Not only do I have problems with their "lifestyle" but more than that its their attitude..that they are "owed" this help.. I can't print the rest of what I want to say, a senetence full of swear words would definitely get me kicked off here.
