If you booked the service with UPS directly they say 5pm collection is too late. 4:30 is the latest it can enter the UPS network. Also UPS make you print your own label to speed up the process. Infact reading my UPS account it says no paperwork from the driver is needed and not mailing with a label will cause delays.

So I have to say this is your fault. Fail to prepare prepare to fail

We booked directly with UPS on the phone. We were doing it on line and had a couple of queries. The operator initially said the pick up was between 3-5pm for the next day delivery. They also said that they would provide the paperwork.

Their driver arrived at 3pm without the paperwork and said he would be back by 5pm. We checked with UPS and explained the situation. They said that this would still be at the local depot for the loading at 7pm for the US flight. He came back for collection at 4.45pm.

I will hold my hand up to any fault I have made, but we followed UPS instructions and advice all the way on this one.

Having read UPS's service guide and this link
    http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/bussol/browse/personal/shipping_prepare.html

UPS is a customer labelled parcel service not Driver labelled unless you select UPS Returns.

At 5pm according to all the service guides it was never going to reach the US the next day.

If you was that worried why wait for the collection why didn't you directly feed in to either the main UPS hub or your local UPS depot/hub

UPS advised that paperwork was to be provided by the driver on collection. It was provided printed with all details when he returned the second time having forgotten it the first.

Three separate UPS agents confirmed that the Express Plus parcel would get to NY by the next noon. This was on original enquiry, then when the driver forgot the paperwork at 3pm and finally after collection with paperwork at 4.45pm. The depot manager said that it would have left for flight loading at 7pm had the paperwork been handed in correctly, even up to 6pm.

This is the first transatlantic express package that we have had to deal with. We actually believed UPS when they guaranteed collection and delivery times on multiple occasions so there was no question of us needing to make a delivery to a local depot or hub.

This is their area of expertise and we expected them to fulfill their contract.

    Started at 5pm now 4:45pm

Still Im finding it hard to believe that a self label service required their label.

If it was THAT important and life changing why didn't she get on a plane and deliver it in person?

    Just sayin'.

    What an odd comment.
Bit of a difference between £20/£30 on UPS and a few hundred for a flight, plus not everyone is in the position to just drop everything and fly to the USA.

    What's odd about it?

OP says she's lost thousands and a whole heap of publicity as result of UPS not delivering.

If I were in a position to potentially lose that amount of money/business I'd sure as hell get on a plane and deliver the parcel myself or at the very least find a colleague/friend/family member to deliver it on my behalf.

Whats odd about it? Well, people send important documents daily via UPS and other services, documents and goods that could also potentially lose the business money. Are you really suggesting that those businesses should perhaps stop using a normally pretty reliable service and start sending staff off around the world instead?

And if you couldn't afford to get on a plane? Pay for a family member etc? Not everyone has a few hundred pounds lying around for flights.

If this was as big a deal as the OP claims then I would be hand delivering the item, no question about it. I expect most businesses would for something that could set them up for life.

The issue the OP/ his daughter has now is proving any loss (beyond the cost of postage). There was never any guarantee the "celeb" would wear the item, even if it had reached them in time.

If the OP is to be believed the girl was promised world notoriety with a top 5 A-lister wearing one of her designs at a high profile event, its hardly comparable to sending a set of documents.

And yes, that is what businesses do with documents THAT important and THAT time senstiive.
