She's used the tray this evening, I've seen her.
So I think it was perhaps the litter.
I'll use up the bag of cheap litter, then by the time she's used the giant bag she will probably be content & settled enough to change to the White crystals.
She had her 3 day check up with the vet today re her speying, she's doing fine, they want her back next week for the 10 day check.
I don't know why she ended up with persian rescue, as she wasn't speyed, I assume breeding was the intention.

I guess I need to get the rug cleaned before I put it down again?
Otherwise it may tempt her back?
  • Glad she's pee'd in the box :)

No, don't put the rug back down until it's been properly cleaned!

Re litter, if you're going to change anyway, you should try a good clumping one such as Golden Grey or Biokats

Very fine, almost sand like so most cats love to dig in it and 'go' :)

It might seem expensive to start as you do need a fair bit to get it nice & deep BUT you'll save loads over the duration it lasts as it's very economical to use

Other plus' are - it takes literally a minute to clean the tray as the wee clumps are easy to remove and you hardly ever (and I do mean ever) need to do a full tray change ..... I only do one every 3 months or so (and know people who leave it longer)

I'm afraid I'm sold on the White crystal type of litter.
I think it's the most expensive, but well worth it.

what is a 3 day and 10 day check up?????

not sure what is the white cristals litter but cats like sand like texture so as Risong says above, perhaps try Golden Grey range (they do Golden White too) for her?

I would keep the rug away - for while...

Photo????? (kitty not rug of course)

but if the cat finds it uncomfortable to use....it really is for the cat to decide what litter she wants/will use - welcome to the world of cat slaves...:D
  • Lots of cats just don't like the gel stuff unfortunately - hope she keeps on getting it right from now on! One of my cats was very fussy about litter and would only use a couple of different types - neither of them were the gel type. You can't force them unfortunately :rotfl:

In response to your earlier questions:
Vaxs for life sounds good, pets at home do that too. - yes any vets 4 pets do them and some other vets I've noticed recently.
Where do you get your advantage & drontal? - Usually vet UK as they're one of the cheapest and product is always well within their expiry date - some online shops not so much!
That type treats the cat & house for a month? - An advantage pipette treats a cat for a month. It doesn't treat the house as such apart from the fact that any flea which bites the cat dies fairly quickly, whether it stays on the cat for a while or jumps off elsewhere in the house.
I think profender is only on prescription? Yes - I don't bother with spot on wormers. I chop worming pills in half and hide them in squishy treats. Never had an issue getting any of my 4 cats to take them that way - but they are all big foodies.
Some one posted earlier a link to a flea treatment with the same active ingredient as advantage, I think they worked out about £1.50 each if you buy 24. - I'm not saying that it's a bad idea, but personally I'm a bit wary of putting generic products like this (which are fairly strong chemicals when all is said and done) on my pets. I make sure that the brands have lots of positive reviews in lots of different places before I'll use them.

Sorry none of mine have ever liked any of those

The best way to find out what she likes is to have several trays around and use different litters in each - and see what she uses

Then keep the one / two used and try some others - youll then find out

It might not be the one you like - but if its the one she likes AND therefore uses ....... speaks for itself really!

Cats are generally clean and will only toilet inappropriately if something has upset them / theyre ill or they dont like the litter or tray

Re flea stuff - you want something like indorex which you spray the house with and will protect it for up to 12 months

sensiblesarah clearspot (norbrook)Has the same ingredients in as Advantage which it seems you use judging by your post so what is the difference?

Try crawling around on sharp gravel in your naked feet, thats how 'crystal' litter feels for cats, not only that but they are very poor quality, you need a good quality clumping litter which is comfortable for the cat, such as a fine clay based litter or a plant based litter such as oko.

I wouldn't put the rug down for a while, until well past the stage that she's settled in or else you risk her choosing to use it again. Be patient, it's a big trauma she's been through: neutering, moving home a couple of times, new people. You can't blame her for being unsettled.

I did have one cat that took quite a few weeks to get settled with toileting. She never really liked the litter tray and was much happier when she could go outside. Most cats will adapt more quickly though. I'd try and minimise her other options, e.g. it's the litter tray or a bare floor. And keep going with the litter that she likes!
