I really like this - having trouble viewing it on phone without glasses.
Do you think all of it is scratchable?
    I can't see properly :-(

That looks like the sort of thing they like. Being a new cat owner I have found it easier to bond with the cats by playing lots of games with them so I would suggest a variety of toys - ie toy mice, balls such as ping pong, and I bought them the Flying Frenzy toy from Amazon which drives them absolutely crazy. They also like chasing balls of rolled up tissue paper. If you are getting a kitten try to get a bit of blanket with mum's scent on so they can use it as a comfort blanket.

Sorry I missed it because it wasn't included in the list like everything else was ...... do try to introduce some wet into her diet as well

Barrels ..... *sigh* I'm on a cat forum where LOADS of people have that barrel! AND it's very much loved by many, many cats!

This is another good one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nobby-Little-Lazy-Tree-Beige/dp/B00620MSIE/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1427449856&sr=1-1&keywords=nobby+lazy+cat+tree that quite a few people have

Mia has this one in her room http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nobby-62016-17-Lazy-Scratching-Light/dp/B00171UYGG/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1427449856&sr=1-3-fkmr0&keywords=nobby+lazy+cat+tree if you can wait, you can sometimes pick them up a lot cheaper when it gets to the last one in stock! I got one from Amazon for £44! (yup, for the big one that's over £110!)

Zoo+ is a fantastic site - variety of stuff and prices are great. They do a 'savings plan' where you basically buy a discount voucher of either 3% or 5% for a year or 3 years ..... I paid £3.90 for 3% for 3 years and have saved nearly £45 already (and only about 1/2 way through the period). There's also cashback through TopCashBack or Quidco

I've justs noticed your cat is called Mia which we have called our new little one!

  • Keeping a cat off the bed - is that even possible? :rotfl:

And why would you even want to? Saves money on heating in winter and puss has to earn his keep.

You might find nappy bags handy to scoop the poop into.
Puss maybe nervous when she arrives - my rescue cat was fine with me at the shelter, but on arrival she hid for three days!
Set up a specific cat room with all her stuff in, with access to a window to look out of and places she can climb and places to hide. If she is nervous let her hide but spend time in the room talking to her. Once she's more confident let her out to the rest of the house, but restrict the number of rooms so she's not overwhelmed.

This is the cat tree we got from Amazon. It fixes to the wall and is really good in that it looks quite nice and fulfills the purpose of scratch post and beds. Poppy now sleeps in the top hammock.

I have found it very easy to scratch post train the two cats and they now both use scratch posts. I do have an additional one with a feather toy on it. My furniture has not been damaged.

Yes that is really good advice and also block up holes with towels that you don't want kitty to go down.

A cat bed. Our little monkey has three different ones including an igloo that she snuggles up in when it's cold. We also have a few fleece blankets for her that we put on top of her beds that can easily be washed. A cardboard box is always good for sleeping in or playing in.

A place for her to hide until she settles. We have a thicky fluffy Ikea bath mat under the bed where she goes to hide from the window cleaners or when the big scary vacuum comes out!

Yup, nappy bags are fantastic for scooping the litter box out - have a look at the supermarkets value ranges, they're usually under 30p for 300!!

    Excellent advice above ......

I'd also 2nd a bed - Mia (tesuhoha good choice of name!;)) loves igloo beds to hid in and Archie likes open beds and would hate to be shut in!

I'm lucky - both mine use their beds but I know others whose cats never set foot in them!

Before buying one, I'd try the cheap option and see if they[ll get used - a Cardboard box with one flap left open & on it's side with a nice snuggly blanket in for an enclosed one and an old pillow or blanket for an open one and see if either will be used.

If you have £ shops near you, they usually have the little fleecy blankets which are great and £stretcher does beds fairly cheaply if you want to go for a cheap 'real' option to try
