Ignoring the logical inconsistency in the above, does this mean that when/if the only users of the current 'style' are those who have to use it because of visual issues with the new 'style', that is the point at which you will remove it?0 -

Many sites have suffered significant losses in user numbers as a result of changing layouts. People tend to be particularly annoyed when they end up with a less user-friendly interface, as in this case.
What MSE Towers don't seem to have taken on board is that websites (or subsets of sites) are often set up for very different purposes, requiring different user interfaces.
The forum is not used by users in the same way that the main site is.
What a lot of the regulars don't realise is that the site can and will run perfectly well without them. Most of the people who are complaining would stick around even if the new template was forced on them. And of those that did actually leave, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't make any money for the business behind MSE anyway.
This site and forum is far too big to be troubled by a few hundred or even thousands of regular users leaving. There is a huge archive of useful information that will still be here for years to come and will continue to attract new users all the time.
Its a moot point now anyway as Martin has already confirmed that the old template will still be available.0 -

As for "you wont win people around by saying people just like change". I am not trying to win anyone around. I am aware lots of people don't like it whether due to change resistence or genuine preference. Yet we have to do what we believe is right for the forum - and I believe this is correct - and the buck stops with me.
Yet the key point is - if you're a registered member you can choose for yourself.
If you leave us with a permanent choice of which style site we use I'll be fine with that Martin but that is not what was indicated today to everyone.
It's not just about saying people don't like change, that new site design genuinely made me feel physically ill, it hurt my eyes, caused a headache which then progressed to nausea and that was just after a short time of use trying to get back to the old style format. Reading others comments I wasn't the only one it was having such ill effects on either.
I've commented this week elsewhere that I don't like the BBC site new look but at least it does not make me feel physically sick. I will get use to the BBC site and continue to use it but if you ever change this site to the new style for all users than I won't have any choice but to leave, you will have forced me out by your instance on a new design that I found anything but comfortable to use. Look guys, change is never easy. I remember when I first started here, it seemed like it took me forever to get used to the set up. Then this sudden change today felt like starting over. I hated it, as most did. But I also knew that I'd get used to it in time, which I will - but only when I have to
Martin and Team MSE, hope you don't mind a couple of friendly suggestions:
1) It would be nice to have a little warning next time. Unless you did, but I missed it - which is quite possible.
2) I don't know if this would the same for all the forums, but with Comping, I think it would be easier if these drastic changes happened over a weekend, when there are fewer competitions posted, and when many of us would have a bit more time to spend on getting used to it.
3) (I lied about there being 2 suggestions) I guess if we hate it that much, we could always demand a refund of our fees
