So, if you're not online it doesn't shut down?
Does it just soft reset as if you've hit the reset button or is there any message when it resets?"A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0 -
well the problem didnt go away :9 i've unistalled my belkin wireless internet adaptor, and the PC has been working like a charm, which suggests that it is my internet which is causing the problem.
does the coding that comes up on the blue screen of death tell you what has cased the problem? does the answer to my troubles lie there?
any ideas how i go about resolving this issue? and why has it only started now? i've been using that adaptor and software for 11 months trouble free

You should get more info if you search the net for the error code given in the blue screen. Try looking in the event log for entries at the time of the crash. Right Click My Computer, Manage. Event Viewer. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
It does sound like a hardware issue.
If it's only happening whilst surfing then investigate the connection to the router. You say it's a PC with wireless internet?
Do you have a wireless internet card?
Are you able to connect with an ethernet cable or USB?0 -
i connect via a belkin wireless usb type device. the crashes either happen when im browsing the net, or as the belkin device loads.
im hoping to try and connect via a cable, to determine whether its the usb adaptor thats causing the problems, or whether its something else.
im loathe to reinstall it though, because i know im going to get problems until i get to to the root of the issue, making the PC very frustrating to use :mad:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
if it is of any help, i've checked, and its a belkin G+ wireless USB adaptor, model f5d7051 that ive been using. i have the original disk, and hence the original drivers for this product.
according to the belkin website, the fact that the item is not recognised as having passed windows logo testing is of no conern; it is compatible and safe to use. other than that, google-ing has thrown little light on known compatability problems between belkin and SP2 (other than a seemingly common consensus that belkin is a bit crap  )know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Try updating your graphics card driver.
To find out what card you have right click on the desktop and click on properties, then click on settings.
The box that comes up will tell you what card you have, usually it say
PlugnPlay Monitor on .............
That's your graphics card, go to the makers site and get the latest drivers
Also make sure that you are not downloading anything else, if you are trying todownload a big file show as a film when the PC starts the dowbload client will take all the CPU power and cause the machine to shut downIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -

Just been reading a totally separate thread and there was a very good suggestion ( I forget who by - so I do apologise ) that it may be the USB ports that are being overloaded.
How many devices do you have plugged into various USB ports ? And what is the size ( power output ) of your PSU ?
Just a thought....
