I have done slimming world a couple of times before with some success so I think it's about time I started again, I won't be going to group as I can't get to one with work, 3 children etc.etc. is it worth joining online? Also I used to love their cookbooks, does anyone know if it's possible to buy the, through the website if you join up?
Sorry for all the questions, I thought if I joined this group it would give me the motivation I need without attending a group as you can't beat a bit of support, virtual or otherwise
Welcome aboard GreenbeanieWe have a greentiger and a beanie in the camp - I can see me mixing everyone up :rotfl: Step on those scales Greenbeanie - today is the last day you will see those numbers on the scales and you will be able to monitor your progress and see how far you have come further down the road. That's just my opinion anyway

Welcome, I have only recently joined this thread - everyone is so lovely and supportive :A
Like you I have attempted Slimming World many times... determined this will be the last time I join and to get this weight off. I have a lot to lose too, 6 stone ideally. But it *IS* do-able and whether you have 11lb or 11 stone to get to where you want to be, everyone is fighting their own battle.
I re-joined last week at a group and as far as I'm aware they don't sell the books online (unless you become an online member perhaps they send them?)
You could always try ebay or amzon. :money:
Happy Sunday guys! Hope you're all having a good weekend. I made a boiled egg bagel for brunch, using a warbutons thin bagel (6 syns) and ketchup instead of butter (1 syn) it turns out really nice and I was surprised how filling it was... not to mention how much it tasted like a mcdonalds breakfast :rotfl:
I bought some Scan Bran from Holland and Barrat... so I'm going to get my bake on this afternoon! Going to attempt some sort of 'cake'... although what I'm not sure (have no nutella or cadburys options) I do however have quark
so job should be a good 'un.
Soo pleased with myself this week... I'm really embracing the free foods and recipes.. I have *never* done this with SW before... if I am completely honest I ususally vaguely stick to the plan and cut my portions down.
This time I am following it religiously, and it's paying off - I definitely felt a bit slimmer this morning... I can see more of my feet anyway :rotfl:
That bagel looks bloomin lush and I am bloomin starving right now :eek:Saver-upper wrote: »Welcome GreenBeaanie1,we are a friendly bunch around here, and you will be made to feel very welcome :j:j.
I have never done Sw online-always gone to group,so don't know personally, but from listening to other people,it sounds a bit lonely.I think it must give you access to the SW website, but there is not the moral support like a group (or this place!) would give you.
I don't think you can get the books as an online member, but willing to be corrected (I have heard people complain before that online members have no way of getting hifi bars, etc,so assume it's the same with books)
If it was me,I would probably just stick around here:we can all help you out with questions, syns, and pokes with very big sticks when you need them :rotfl:.
I know you say you would be disappointed if you step on the scales now,but can I suggest you look at it another way?Whatever you weigh today, that is the last time you will see those numbers on the scales :j:j.So as you lose, you will know exactly where you started from, rather than always wondering how much you have actually lost.If it was me,I would want to be able to say "0n Sunday 19th of July I weighed X stone and X pounds.Look how far I have come!!" Nobody else ever needs to kow those numbers-it is just for you.
Welcome to the thread, and good luck x
So agree with your advice saver-upper.
Maman I have searched the fridges and freezers for burgers so perhaps they don't stock them. Its not a local and not one of the smaller branches but I suppose they will stock what they know they can sell. Will keep a look out.
Off to catch up with a few more posts.

I am newbie on this thread. Loved reading all of your stories and successes. Well done to you all.
I joined Slimming World last Thursday, I have about 15 lbs to get to goal.
I am looking forward to trying new recipes, looked at loads last night, added lots of ingredients to my asda order later. Enjoyed reading a few of the blogs last night, some lovely recipes.
I need to cook for a family of 4 so if anyone has a family favorite that you could share with me that would be great.
Upped my excercise as well, going on on my bike now with my DD.

PS thanks Tweets for the info on this thread it's fab x

Yes it's out the new mag... it's ok, i prefer lasagnesorry to any Greek people i may have offended!
If you're desperate for it i can type it up
Thanks for that shala. No need to type it up as I will probably get mag from friend tomorrow when we go to class. We are having lasagne for tea - can work wonders with a bit of minceblue eyed girl Thanks for the heads up on the sausages, the LM one's sound nice. I've only ever had Quorn meat free sausages before but i fancy the LM ones. I'm a sucker for anything with Rosemary in. Aldi do some gorgeous focaccia rolls and it's been hard not buying them!
Step away from these please 1940sGalThey sound laden with synful syns :rotfl:

Of course.. we have many tools available to help you on your journey..
This is the scariest -speed cop maman and her deputy Denise
Then there'sand if you're really naughty it's off to SW jail for you

It is now a regular item in our weekly top up shop at Lidl.Like it just say cooked in the pan - sometimes DH does it with orange zest and a bit of juice. Last night he used some liquid smoke that he received in gift set from DS for Father's Day. I think Shala may use this too.
I do use it for my pulled BBQ pork, it gives a nice underlying flavour doesn't it.. I use it in most of my bbq recipes actually. That was a big sarnie JediWinner it sent me into next door but ones garden:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Well I've decided on dinner now so here's our meal plan for the day
B - none, I was a lazy *rse
L - turkey sandwich (heb) salad, crisps (4)
T - SW burger, wholemeal thin(5) cheese (0.5hea) sw chips, pickles, salad
S - big bowl of strawberries, cake (5)
So in the interest of science  I've done some baking today, I tried the lady's recipes from facebook that I linked to a few days ago.. she basically gets a cake mix, mixes it with diet pop and bakes.. the result.. 12 cupcakes at 5.5 syns each!! I realise this is still quite a few syns but if you like cake then you'd be eating normal cake anyway at higher syns, it just saves a few for the bank
I had carrot cake mix, so I added a grated carrot and diet ginger pop. I actually got 14 cupcakes out of the mix so these were under 5 syns each then read the recipe she'd posted and I could have added more carrot, meaning more cakes, less syns and a happy maman as I added speed food :rotfl:
This is a picture of what I baked ..
They taste just like a carrot cake should, very spicy with the added ginger flavour which I love  you could add orange diet pop though if you'd prefer the orange tang..Mortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.0 -

Although I have to say that I appointed myself Speed cop and denise is amazing for ideas of variety in SW friendly meals and all very mse with it.
Welcome newbies!! I think posting menus is a great idea. Although I'm at target I do it every day if I can. It's partly the accountability but I use it as my food diary too.greentiger wrote: »Maman, our foorball club is much the same, albeit on a much smaller scale. One of ours started for Swansea yesterday too. They have another of our exs too. And they are looking at another of our youngsters too (ha, ha – ALL our players are youngsters!).
I do sympathise greentiger but I envy them going to Swansea City. That's where I was born and it's a beautiful part of the country.
My EE plan for today:
B: NAS Ribena, HEB porage, HEA milk
L: cold meat, fried vegHB Braised steak, SW roast potatoes and parsnips, cabbage, carrots, cauli & broccoli
Syns: weekend wine:j squirt of syrup, gravy (although at 1 tsp shared of cornflour I could easily ignore it).
P.S. 2 tbsps. of squirty cream is only half a syn so don't worry about it.0 -
Thanks for all the warm welcomes.
Well today I have had pork kebabs which were lovely even my DD's liked them.
I have also made the rice pudding, must say it is an acquired taste, not sure if I put too much vanilla muller in, very sweet even for me.We're just happy to have a home, a family and our health. Whatever else is just added and it fits.0 -

Had a look, according to SW online 7 syns each. So not too bad, though that's providing i'm looking at the right thing. Knowing me the ones i want are the ones at 24 syns
I don't know about anyone else but I do miss my bread. I know I could still have it but when you take the syns in to account it doesn't seem worth it. I love crusty bread. I had a SW meal earlier, beef with carrot and swede mash and all I wanted was some crusty bread to dipTo be honest I think it would have improved things. The mash was really watery and even after tipping some liquid away my plate was still swimming. Won't be having that one again, better off making my own.
Has anyone tried the SW chicken sausages?0 -

Have only tried it on some chicken breasts and salmon so far and is was lovely. DH received a gift pack with four different flavours in it and they all sounded lovely but I cannot remember what they were now.
Can I be a pain please shala - can you please post link for those cakes please. I am not on fb so I might not be able to get into it. DH's little face lit up when he spied your cakes and carrot cake is one of his favourite. Could you also tell me which cake mix it is that you used.:rotfl:

I think I had better steer clear of the foccacia for now 1940sGal. Thinking back to pre-SW days, we used to get through quite a bit of bread - sliced/unsliced/white/brown/granary/loaves/buns/bloomers - whatever :rotfl: These days there are times when I don't bother with bread and use hexb on other things - I don't think I have ever synned bread although I have been known to substitute something that isn't quite a hexb. I did stand in front of the Lidl cheese buns yesterday staring at them longingly but I did manage to move on before placing them into my basket :rotfl:
Had hm celery soup for lunch - really fancied it and whilst I enjoyed it I don't think I will be having for a little while again. It was lasagne for tea - mince bit packed with extra veggies, sweetcorn and SW wedgies. DH reckoned there wasn't enough room left on the plate for the pre-planned salad :rotfl:
Here's hoping we all have a good week coming up and Shala has some lovely big losses to enter onto our chart.
Message for our latest newbies - have you considered joining in on our Challenge - no pressure. Our latest challenge has only just started and runs for about 8-9 weeks. We decided how much we want to lose through the duration of the Challenge and tell our lovely Shala. We then post our losses each week - in big bold/cololoured print and Shala enters them onto her fab chart. It's not a competition or a race - just a bit of fun and a way of keeping track of how we are doing. Have a think about it and if you fancy giving it a go - shout up and Shala will sort you out (she's good like that :A
). I am sure other people could have said this a lot more eloquently and without the waffle - but that's just me - I know what I want to say but don't always manage to get it down so that it makes sense. It does make sense in my head - honest :rotfl::rotfl:.
Off now to put kettle on and have an Activia Creamy 3% Yoghurt - I think they are around 3.0 - 3.5 syns (depending on flavour) but they don't taste particularly like a diet yoghurt imo which is a plus point.

I would definitely like to join the challenge it sounds like a great way to get going. Food not good today as getting rid of leftovers but tomorrow will be on plan.
Having said that I did get my bike (which I bought a few weeks ago and haven't yet ridden) out of the garage and went for my first bike ride in 20 years and first proper exercise for probably 3 years:j
I did about 3 miles before collapsing in a sweaty heap but it's a start0 -
Ooh i meant to say, guess what I bought today. A hula hoop! :rotfl:
I don't know how i got to reading about the benefits of them the other day but i was and apparently they're great. Just 10 minutes a day can whittle your waist. Though from what i tried today that's because you use a whole load of calories picking the hoop up off the floor! I think out of 10 minutes I managed a massive 30 seconds of continuous movement
Either way, loads of fun, even if i do think it's going to leave me with bruised hips!0
