Hmmm, (up to) 80 miles is not enough range for a car.
Whatever the purchase price is, it's a lot for something which is so limited.
If you do small hops and there are charging points available, then all well and good, but don't forget to charge it!

Red Dwarf actor Robert Llewellyn has a youtube series devoted to electric cars and he has a leaf. Worth a look and he tells you all the downsides as well as the good.

Of course he does... He has a vested interest in disagreeing.

But that doesn't get around the basic physics that dictate charging times. Shove an 85kwh battery in a Zoe or Leaf, and see what the range would be. Or a Twizy. But short of a BIG FAT mains connection, a Tesla will take eons to charge. 85kwh from a 13a plug will take nearly 30hrs, before charging losses.

If your charging up from empty and using just a 13a plug, yes it takes a while.

Unlike a petrol car you aren't restricted to having to wait till the thing is empty before having to refuel at a petrol station. In addition I've had a 7kWh charger fitted to my house for 'free'. It can charge my Leaf from empty in about 4-6 hrs, and a Tesla in 12hr. However because I only drive about 20-30 miles a day, charging for 1-2 hrs overnight is enough (charging can be pre-programmed).

But most of my charging has come from public stations, whilst shopping today at Sainsbury, I topped up the battery from 60% to 90% by the time we finished the weekly shop.....did I mention it was free :)

In addition if your travelling long distances, most M service stations have 'Rapid chargers' (again free), which can charge from <10% to 80% in 30 minutes. Tesla also have specific Tesla Super chargers (again free for use if you have a a Tesla), that can deliver charge at a rate of 140 miles per 30 minutes!!!

Clearly if your constantly doing 100 miles trips EVs are limited, but for my use, I can honestly say charging time/access has been the last thing on my mind when I use the Leaf :)

When I filled up the Lexus last week it was such a chore having to drive to a petrol station, que up, and than pay £65;)
