I saw one of these pathetic little things broken down at a busy junction a few weeks ago. It was causing chaos where it had died. the best part for me was how dim the hazzard lights were lol.

However, I did read a review last week somewhere that during the winter the range will drop drastically when you have heater on, lights on, stop start traffic, short journeys etc.. and they reckon they got a better range by heating the car via the heated seats/steering wheel.

I will never underdtand EV's even though I do try my best.

My current car cost me £700-750 to buy and I'd probably get that now for it 8 years later.

It has full leather, electric seats, heated seats, climate control (still working), cruise control, leccy sunroof, windows, mirrors, heated front screen, heated mirrors, 6 disc changer, etc. So for me to buy an EV for £15 - £20,000 would be nuts.

As said I'm not getting into an arguments about EVs.

Our other car is a Lexus Hybrid, best part of the Lexus is when it's in full EV mode, which is why I looked at the Leaf in the first place...

In the ideal would I world have bought a £70k Tesla S but haven't got the funds for that at the moment..My motivations for getting a Leaf on PCP is two fold:

1: To release equity from my current car by downsizing to something cheaper (but not banger economics), so that in 2-3 years time I have enough for a used Tesla S.

2: The electric drive train of the Leaf really impressed me. My daily commute is <20 miles for which the Leaf is perfect. I doubt the car will ever leave the City limits in my ownership. We have the Lexus for log trips.

Based on those requirements I leapt at the chance to get into a Leaf on one these cheap deals. So by the end of March we will have replaced a diesel Civic with a hybrid Lexus and a petrol BMW with a electric Leaf :)

There were even better deals to be had on the Leaf, some as good as £3500 total over 2 years for the top spec model!! But happy with what I got. If people are seriously interested you need to be very quick before prices go back up.

The government EV grant of £5000 off will end after 50,000 cars are sold, EV and plugin sales are climbing quickly, and with these kind of deals and for me a better driving experience I can see why. So for people who can run these as second cars I would say jump on broad whilst the cheap deals are around and the majority of public remain ignorant to savings benefit.

Essentially go and take one out for a 24hr test drive and judge for your self rather than listing to Internet 'experts' :)

Total = £5984 ALL in cost to cover 14,000 miles over two years
OK, I underestimated. 43p/mile. My apologies. Pretty much bang-on-the-nose of the HMRC claim-back rate.

Why is the OP so desperate for people to buy the Leaf? Do you work for Nissan?

Do you have a link to that offer? Most of the ones I've seen at that level have a minimum £70 a month battery lease charge on top.

£26k list would be battery-purchase, and the £160/mo lease isn't miles out - although there's a hefty deposit to pay.

£169/mo inc battery, 7.5k miles, but £2,850 customer deposit.
  • I'm sure twenty years from now when electric cars can do 500 miles on a single charge they will be all the rage, but for the foreseeable future they will remain the preserve of OAPs with more money than sense that do 50 miles a week. Not to mention of course zero driving enjoyment, although to be fair that's not really possible in any car now due to the congestion on the roads.

I love the way the OP is making a thing of the free congestion charge. Most of us couldn't drive it that far to benefit without an 8 hour recharge.
