How much does it cost to go to the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland?
This would be a significant factor in my cost calculations of about a week of Nissan Leaf ownership.0 -
How far can they go before the battery runs out?0

so far that Nissan offer you a free hire car for 2 weeks to go on holiday in.0 -
If i was in the market for a new car i think it sounds like a good deal.
I'm thinking of waiting until the 'driverless' car comes out.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Not going to get into arguments about what an EV is like to drive. I’ve driven it, and like it, range is 80 miles per charge - 8 hrs to charge from home plug. 80% in 30 minutes from ‘Fast chargers’ at motorway stations.
Went for a more expensive spec Leaf in the end….what can I say, I love gadgets too much
£28,590 , £5000 government grant, £5300 Nissan contribution = £18,290
Zero per cent interest, on a PCP deal, allowed to cover 7000 miles per year.
£201/month x 24 including all fees = £4824 over 2 years for cost.
Insurance for me is £200 per year = £400 in total
Zero road tax, servicing = £200 for 2 years.
Say Electricity is the 15p/kwh = £560 for 14,000 miles.
Total = £5984 ALL in cost to cover 14,000 miles over two years in a BRAND NEW, 5 seater car with air-con, reversing camera, sat nav. plenty of other gadgets.
Leaf if replacing my BMW, which is worth about £13-15K, insurance and road tax on the BMW alone is £2200 over 2 years, thats before depreciation, fuel, and servicing!!
£15K will go straight to the mortgage, so mortgage payments will fall by £100/month.
So NET cost of changing my 7 year old BMW to a BRAND NEW Leaf for 2 years is £100/month…..Before taking into account running costs of the BMW.
For me that a great deal, the biggest selling point for me is actually the fact the Leaf is Electric….The fact it’s going to cost so little to run simply cemented the deal
But these deals aren’t going to be around for long, cars need to be registered before 31st of March!!0 -
80 mile range , proper charging takes 8 hrs , the fast charger will kill the battery a week after the warranty runs out , oh sorry , batteries are consumables
better off with a Sinclair c50 -
It's neither fish nor fowl as far as I'm concerned. Not suitable for medium to long trips and too expensive to buy just to have as an around town run around. Until they can up the distance that can be travelled on a single charge significantly I can't see it being anything other than a novelty TBH.0

To be fair, on a pcp handing the car back after 2 years I doubt the OP cares about the state of the battery.
I actually looked at a leaf recently, was offered a very good deal, and nearly went for it as the family second car. Why I didn't go for one.
The 30 min charge on the motorway, what when its broken and the car is very low on range?, call the AA for a tow?, what when more people buy these and there's a queue?, you could be waiting an hour to plug in!!, the 80 mile range wont be at motorway speeds, more like 55-60mph to get that range, and that's before you even look at a/c or heating.
I think each medium (I doubt long trips would even be considered in these) trips would end up more like an adventure of planning charging points etc.
If you have a daily commute of 60 miles, or 60 miles each way and you have a guaranteed place to charge then they do probably make financial sense.
But not for me, OP enjoy your car.0 -

Actually rapid charging doesn't kill the battery, sorry but it doesn't. I know some guys with over 70k miles in just over three years who rapid charge twice a day for those three years and only just losing some of their storage capacity, they aren't as bad as everyone thinks. Thanks to all the competition posters.0 -
Fair play O/P. Sounds like you've got a great deal and cheap motoring.
By the majority of the responses though, it does still show theres a high level of ignorance with regards to EVs though.0
