Yes there are a lot of really good stories where people have almost made it, it's nice to know there are a few of us still here for a while

£7 cashback from santa credit card this month so duly paid off the mortgage immediately. Love being able to fast pay over to my mortgage, feels like I have "done" something by paying it down rather than having to save up till I reach £600 before I can overpay etc. those of you who have to do this have my utter respect for sticking with it!!

I feel like I've such a huge mortgage and long way to go and buying my son prescription sun glasses today for £70 has put me in such a mood, even though I'm protecting my sons eyes lol. I've done well skipping coffees and saving by not having things for myself, but when it comes to the kids I'm a sucker!!

Firegirl - I have them same feelings at times that all our good work can get derailed by one unexpected expenditure like glasses for the kids, or dentist saying that i need a crown!!

Then after a few hours, or the next day, i'm able to appreciate that without the previous good work we'd be in an even worst situation!

Even little payment is a step forward. I made a £5 overpayment today from my small change jar which gave me such joy in telling Mrs SJ that we'd accounted for 2/3's of our interest for the day!

I think you expect not to spend any ridiculous amount on anything again once you get into this. I guess I have to think of the £6 I've saved by skipping coffees this week, rather than the expensive necessities!

It's easy to get a bit "meh" about it all, but remember the old saying watch the pennies and the pounds take care of themselves.....

I'm the same when an unexpected expense comes along but let's face it they do!

    Blummin kids :)

See I'm a total nerd. I have a pot for the unexpected. That way, even though it is unexpected, I have money aside already.

Good idea turtle, I do have 1 tip for anyone on this board that drinks a lot of coffee. I love Mochas. Only realising now how much I spend on Mochas! Probably over £10 a week! I've been transferring £2 every time I resist a Mocha. Not only this but usually I'd have a we cake too! So my normal bank account should be healthier too!

Since Tuesday I've transferred a tenner!!! Hoping my bank account goes up and my waist line goes down! I did have a mocha on Fri and I enjoyed it more too!:T

I'm passed that stage. I get frustrated about using any of the savings pots (car, holiday, Christmas, kids misc, house emergency)...

Yep me too, I'm planning an emergency pot (over and above the 6 month bills coverage "just in case" pot.

But I know I will struggle with what would class as an emergency and be totally annoyed if I need to spend it!!
