Just a quick question: Did the copper take your son's details?
My OH had a run in with a coper once when he was a trucker. The story went something like this:
A norml patrol car not a traffic car pulls him over. A copper gets out of the passenger seat and as he approached hubby's truck he looked like he was about 14.
"I would like to see your tachograph please?" he squeaked.
"Be my guest!" said hubby motioning to the passenger seat with the ide that he should jump up and then hubby would pass them across. Instead copper junior started to try to open the fuse cabinet. Bemused, Hubby watched him a little and then asked him why he was trying to open the fuse cabinet.
"So where is the tacho in this particular vehicle?" squeaked junior.
"Where it always is, under the speedo." replied OH.
As he came back around the front of the lorry, hubby removed the little key. After a lot of fiddling and trying to open it, hubby asked him why he didn't have a key.
"Well," said Junior, "I'll let you off this once but I'm going to be keeping my eye on you!"
"Let me off what?" Replied hubby, "can I just take your number so that if you do decide to harrass me I can report it?".
Junior looked at least 8" smaller when he got back into the police car.
No he didn't take any details. Just looked at his licence then said he didn't like his attitude and he would be receiving a court summons in the post. He was in a riot van and I have been told that they don't have speed equipment in them so do you reckon he was just trying to scare him or can he still do him for something else.0 -

You don't need any speed equipment to prosecute for speeding , a speedometer will do, or even an officer's (or two) opinion in some circumstances.
If no details at all were taken (remember all that is needed is to confirm a driver's name and address, which may be checked against the PNC) it is very unlikely anything more will be heard.0 -

.
Not (or two) , there MUST be two.
Even then the CPS would be unlikely IMO to bother unless it was a catastrophic case.
Never seen such a prosecution reported in any newspapers.
Never seen one done on relying on speedos either.Forgotten but not gone.0 -

I think this is a possible windup, but putting that aside there is a lot of paperwork involved and I doubt in real life an officer would want this hassle on such a flimsy case. If it does go to court ask to see the policeman's certificate that ensures his speedo was working properly.“Learn from the mistakes of others. I did an 8am - 5pm driving job, Even at a max of 56mph my furthest drop which was usually a max of 60 miles from base but anywhere between 10 and 30 drops a day. I would cover approx 1200 miles a week.
We would think nothing of a 650 mile round trip to visit the other halfs sister at the weekend. many times i would come home on a friday night, have something to eat to let the traffic reduce then pop up there.
These days i would need to be hauled out on a spinal board and nailed to a plank for a week.
I failed the attitude test in my younger days. Got a speeding ticket. I think he was just annoyed that i was accelerating away from them. If it had not been for the traffic lights i would probably have been long gone.
As i got older they would just say watch your speed your going a bit too quickly. Although one policewoman stopped me because she said she knew me. I just saying no to her, I think that bugged her more. She spotted a crack in the windscreen, I said yes the vehicle had been stolen the day before and i was taking it to get one fitted.
All she kept saying was that she knew me. Instead of saying i think she was mistaken i still just replied no to her. The policeman that checked my details was OK. He ran my details and i had my trade insurance paperwork and that was it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

They can't do him without having taken his details unless they noted the registration number either before or after.
They were just being bullies.
I went for sunday lunch to a country pub with my Brother many years ago. Now, he's the type who likes a drink but I tend to avoid it if I'm driving. After the meal we were stood outside chatting before going our separate ways. As we stood there, a police car went up and down the road a couple of times. After I left I had not driven more than a quarter of a mile when I saw the blue flashing lights. They did the "is this your car madam" etc. and I produced my licence to prove my identity and asked them why they'd stopped me. They claimed that there had been a lot of cars stolen in the area thus confirming my suspicion that they were on a fishing trip for drunk drivers. (I other words they knew I wasn't just driving through the village.)
"Thank God you didn't stop my brother!" I said, "he would have been well over the drink drive limit!"
I really think they'd have like me to have told them where he was going!0 -

If this were true it's a good job he didn't know what he was doing as the legislation states a driver must produce his tachograph.0 -

In the unlikely event that it goes to court, he should post on .pepipoo.com for some accurate advice.0
