Well you need medical proof I got it when my Child was Ill on the 3rd test I did think about SC but decided against it as I was told they could turn around and take the 1st 2 Tests and the 3rd may well be the one he scored more in

Hi jillow
So sorry to hear of your predicament - sounds like your dear DS went into meltdown with the stress of it all - he wouldn't be the first. However, I agree with Flashfriend - try all options.
If this was my child and I believed he was capable of an A or B and so did the Primary School, I wouldn't hesitate to try the SC route. If there is significant academic evidence provided by the Primary School - you never know ! It will be up to the GS to consider and decide.
One other thing, the GS you are interested in could very well take Cs this year, intakes go down and up every year
Good Luck - keep us posted0 -
Thanks everyone for the support think I will give it a try have nothing to lose.0

This is such a great Forum. I even mentioned it today to the Headmaster and how it has helped me cope ! Such a long wait now until May though. We put down 5 schools as advised by the Headmaster. Some people only put 2. I phoned the AQE office today to ask their advice and they were so helpful. I wouldn't fancy their job !0

I believe all preps prepare their kids rigorously because paying parents, after all, do expect their kids to move from prep into the grammer. In the old days prep kids were guaranteed entry no matter what but now that the rules have changed, all preps have had to work harder than before to ensure kids get scores that will gain them entry. I know people whose kids went to preps for Strathearn, Methody and BRA and none of them got into said grammars. When I was at BRA, some prep kids in my year were constantly bottom of the year and had to leave at end of Form 5 whilst others were very bright. I always felt that those who were never bright enough to be there, should never have been given a place and therefore I think it is an improvement that this no longer happens & I think the Headmaster is genuine when he says they use only rank order of scores because they believe it is the fairest thing to do. I think all grammers should be doing the same and if they really want to keep a pool of places it should not exceed 10% of their places.
couldn't agree more, and yes bra headmaster does seem sincere in his criteria....I was very impressed by him actually and am more than happy that it was dd's first choice. my little sister loved it there too....all I hear now is 'academy till I die' haha[/QUOTE]
BRA Head was an awesome teacher, he taught me when he was a young man, and he's an impressive Head. My girls would love to go....but too far away. And yes #ATID0 -
Not sure. My dd got 118 nina and 116 nila or vice versa, and she got 104 in aqe. She too was getting 100% in some papers and at least 90% by the end! but then the tests do get a bit repetitive as she was able to say she had done some of the comprehension before lol. My dd teacher said 100 for government tests isn't someone she would put through the aqe but he did get 109 in one of them so I'm not sure tbh. A d to a b2 is a bit of a jump for them to make, I only know about the aqe and I think it's only a few points get awarded, like maybe 3 which is nowhere near a grade and a half. What does the teacher think?0

Thanks for replying. He's very bright school tutor and ourselves are extremely shocked about result he was predicted a or b. He got very nervous towards the end we had to stop all homework, tests and tutor in late September . Last session with tutor he was so anxious he was in tears. He's whole school drop standardised test this year and we were told not to worry. Previous year he was 120 115. Am sick with the whole situation as he worked so hard. We didn't attend doctor etc so have no medical prof. So am really undecided on whether to try and pursue SC are if we don't stand a chance. School has gone down hill recently and are under inspection. Sorry for gate crashing was just wanting to see had anyone any experience or advice..
Bless him, sounds like he crashed. I have to say though, a tutor would hardly say otherwise, then if the child doesn't get it, it's the days performance and not their tutoring.....did he get a new teacher last year and this year? If his October 2014 ones were high, that's a good p.5 teacher, what were p6 and p7 teachers like? I WOULD be worried about such a drop in BOTH standardised tests! It sounds like your little dude has been very let down by the school, going by what you have stated.....although if other children did better then it disproves that...how did the other kids in the class do? .......... I'm sorry I can't be of much help re the sc, I don't know much about it, although I know of a kid being marked up to 98 as her father had had a heart attack a few months before it started and she got into Victoria College with it. She needed a dr letter for proof.... I hope it all works out for you. What do you think of the secondary? What does your son think about the situation?0 -

Hey Citizen Erased
Snap - BRA Head taught me too, when he was young - and he really stood out to me - he was the best English teacher I ever had - when I eventually heard he'd become Head I was not at all surprised - there was just something extraordinary about him and he was so well liked by everyone. I agree that he's an impressive Head - he really has his finger on the pulse.0
