  • Does anyone know how many extra points you get for youngest in year ?

I don't know if anyone really understands this thoroughly but I was told by a tutor that kids with May and June birthdays get 2 extra marks & he doesn't think April birthdays get anything extra.

From looking at previous posts on these forums it would appear that the standardisation process can have the opposite effect on older kids so that they end up with an AQE score which is lower than their 2 best raw scores added together !

All so frustrating that I think it's best not to bother trying to figure it out :(
  • Yes no one really knows but from looking at last years scores on the previous thread, adding the 2 best scores together gives the standardised score with maybe a difference of one mark on either side.
  • My daughter came home from school yesterday in tears. Her teacher that she loves bits is leaving them after Christmas to go and teach a P6 class. The P6 teacher is going off on a career break so he has been told by the board of Governor's he has to move across as they start to prepare for the AQE with the P6 class and they will need a familiar face. My daughters class will have a brand new teacher after Christmas - a stranger as the post has to be advertised ! Half of the class were in tears, boys and girls. He is a great teacher and so good with the kids, everyone loves him and always live in hope that they get him for a teacher. Now they have him and love him hes being taken away from them after Christmas. Really bad timing as we head to AQE tomorrow. Now the other Mums are going to see the principal and explain how upset the kids are and head down the route of "special circumstances" with AQE the same week as they got this news ! It could have been timed a bit better but I suppose there was never going to be a good time. Just think its a bit extreme to go down the road of "special circumstances " Anyone else experienced this or similar ? Any advice greatly appreciated :-) :-)

Northdown - unfortunately its the world we live in. Anything at all that can be used as special circumstances will be used. I have heard a few whispers about what parents in our local school thinking of using and its mind boggling - its awful to think they may get preference over my child something irrelevant.

  • Its crazy isn't it ! The kids are so upset but as you say that's the way things go unfortunately ! I could well believe it about the special circumstances ! Rumour has it that its an extra 5 marks too. The lengths that some people go to are unbelievable ! Good luck for tomorrow :-)
  • When I read this northdown23 I really think that teachers have absolutely no common sense at all!! Very bad timing but I doubt they will get special circumstances for that.
  • That's terrible
My ds granny had heart surgery this week and ds had to deal with that and practice for test I should apply for special circumstances but I don't want to make an excuse for extra points
Changing of s teacher disappointing yes but seriously be shovked if that got extra points

northdown23 It's the principal of a school that decides what teacher teaches what class so really bad timing on his/her part but can't see how it can be used as special circumstances - it just comes down to poor consideration of the school for their pupils. It doesn't help that the AQE is not supported by the Department if Education so the school probably can't use it as a reason to delay their school planning. Good Luck.

Happens all over our wee country not many teachers starts at a school now and stays....I think the using Special Circumstances is silly in this case and to be honest I am sure we could all come up with an idea to try and use it maybe the cat dies the night before or the neighbours had an all night party or .... there was a Bomb scare :-) come on folks lets hear yours cheer us all up :rotfl:

Is the AQE 'a tree' for our children??!!
