Based on that thestack if that's similar we will prob need about 78% to be about 98:99 I'm unsure if it will happen in trying so hard to be confident in my ds he's only a wee young one this seems all to grown up for him .
Did you Managebtinget a grammar place or your first choice

The score of 96 would have got him into the local grammar school but after reading the inspection report (majority of children enter the school above average but at GCSE level results are below NI average!!) decided to go against the flow of parents wanting a grammar school place - 1st choice was the grammar stream at an all ability school which we got & it was the best decision. My advise is look at all the school details available - don't just go on "open night" at schools - remember they are staged!!
  • This rings true to me too all the open nights are there to entice yon to go there of course and you need to be very open minded to pick becaus it's not the best show that is right for your child . Our school took ds today to a secondary which would be my first choice if he didn't Score and ds has come home raving that he likes this better than the three grammar that we have viewed . I asked him what he wanted to do about the test then and he said well I'm going to do the test anyway I'm able to do it but if I have to go to secondary it's the next best school
Funny how kids think I actually do think now it's just a status to have a child go to grammar . Ps the scores at this secondary were on par with one of the grammars just the actually building wasn't as glamourous

Ah C%&P - DS home with score of 67% in a practice test - not doing a lot for confidence. No major issues just silly things. Heres hoping he ups things on saturday.

    Hi Flashfriend
Maybe the school means that with a score of more than 80 you will definitely get into any school. My DS scored 81% last year and his AQE score was 103.
If your are aiming for a school that needs 102 or more then yes, you would want your child to be in the 80s HOWEVER very few schools need 102 plus! Hence, scores in the 70s are good enough for many grammars and scores in the high 60s will be good enough for some too. This is particularly true for the larger grammars as more places means they will usually have a lower 'lowest' score than smaller schools. So the larger the school, the better your child's chances, in most cases.
Also, as most kids scores end up clustered around the average AQE score of 100, it is quite possible that
64% translates to approx 95 in AQE
68% translates to approx 97 in AQE
    72% ............................ 99 in AQE
    76% ............................101 in AQE
    80% ............................103 in AQE etc etc :)

103 was the cut off for our local grammer last year

Yes I agree that parents want to be able to say their child is at grammar school. I think we need to look at the bigger picture as its only in this wee country that it matters. I believe they get far better support in secondary school if they are willing to work. I think my DD would be better suited to our nearest integrated school.

I'd like to know too ones I've been talking too say you don't actually get extra points because everyone is scored relating to ones of same age so my ds is 10and 5 months at time of first paper so he scored against those of same age and there is no adjustment

I was of the impression though it was only ever an extra 2 marks given but I could be wrong
  • If you look at the table of scores which was compiled in last years thread, there is a variation of 3 marks from the same percentage.
  • Well I can forget about any extra marks as my DS is the oldest in the school
  • Thank you flash friend
