noone every said parenthood would be this difficult. DS so clear on where he wants to go so all I can do is support him in every way I can and pray for a good outcome and be really positive at this stage for him xx

It says on the front page that it's an AQE test with the date on it. We have started with 2009 in school just last week. The 3rd paper is apparently the hardest. I'm loosing sleep at the minute as the marks are so bad!
  • I must have a look and see dates on papers

What are your child's scores like X
  • She was down to 59% last week which is the worst yet. They range 59-81%. Very up and down at the minute. She thinks she did better today but we don't get the score until tomorrow.

    Dear All

I've just been reading the last 2 pages of posts and post 148 from Rainbowmc could almost have been written about my son this time last year. I believed he was capable of doing well in AQE but in September last year everything went into a total nosedive. He is young and I was suddenly thinking that, despite having the ability, he was maybe too immature to to cope with the pressure. His scores went on a downward spiral - loads of silly mistakes. I just couldn't understand why & I was getting very upset.

The good news is that October was all change, it was as if someone had flicked a switch, things just returned to normal and he started to raise his scores again and they continued to rise into the 70s, 80s and even 90s - talk about a massive relief !

Looking back, I'd say he was just unable to focus in September as he could not see the end in sight and was so fed up with the practice tests but from October with the end now in sight he really did get his head down and it made all the difference. I had not done much work with him during the summer because I was worried about stressing a little boy who just wanted to play outside with his friends every day - I would have felt too guilty to pressure him into working and was afraid of putting him off completely - so hard, as a parent, to get the right balance !

So this year, now that September is over & all of your kids can now see that the end is near, hopefully that will spur them on to make a big effort for the next 8 weeks and scores will start to rise and stay up there where you want them to be. Try not to worry about the scores going up and down, this happened to lots of kids in both my kids years and yet most of these kids ended up in Grammars.
  • Thank you flymetothemoon! Just the words I need to hear. I know my DS can do it but I think you're right that she has got fed up in the last few weeks. I think I've been trying too hard also so I've stopped trying to fit in extra work and let her relax a bit this week.
