I will be moving to a new supplier this month, however my house was a new build and I get a charge for IGT from some suppliers eg EON but not EDF or OVO. Has anyone got a list of who charges and who don't?
Thanks for your help.

Such surcharges, and their cost, have fallen significantly compared to perhaps 10 years ago.
As I understand it, only these suppliers now apply a surcharge
Eon - £42 p.a (only some of their tariffs, some (most?) have no surcharge)
nPower - £10.50 p.a
Better Energy - amount unknown, but a surchage will be applied
The company we must not mention here (there's a huge thread on this board about them) - £34.20 p.a
EDF - not sure on latest position but they did charge dependent on supply region. (maybe no surcharge). Also may depend on tariff. e.g No surcharge on standard tariff
I think all the others have no surcharge.
Note not all suppliers will accept customers with an IGT; the big 6 do, but many of the smaller ones do not.

Hi Hammer Time and footyguy.
Thought I'd pop on and let you know, none of our current tariffs have IGT charges. Hope this helps.

Notwithstanding spiro's comment above, in what way is it a bit of a pain?
A pain for the supplier maybe, but for the customer switching is exactly the same as without an IGT - you just contact the supplier (or go via a third party site such as a comparison site etc)
Only thing customer needs to be aware of is if the supplier will accept customers supplied via an IGT. If they do, switching, as far as the customer is concerned, is exactly the same process (but may take a few days longer)
The customer makes no direct contact with the IGT.0 -

Quote from an OVO e-mail:
You may already be aware but your gas is being supplied by an Independent Gas Transporter (IGT).
This means it can take up to 12 weeks for us to receive your switch over readings.
It took Ovo nearly 3 months to set up my online gas account, and 21/2 months since I switched away, I am still waiting for a final gas account. The actual gas switch also went through in 24 days rather than within the prescribed 17 day switching period. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Switched many tiimes for those with an IGT, even to Ovo, and it's never taken 3 months for a switch to go through.
A week to 10 days extra delay is about the worst I've experienced, I think that was with SSE.
When you switch to a new supplier, you give the readings to that new supplier
(they then pass them back to the old supplier for agreement and billing purposes)
Sorry to hear of your issues with Ovo regarding your final bill.
22 months?!? Don't forget the back billing principles
(Also why haven't you complained and then got the ombudsman involved?)
I would say your issues are with Ovo, rather than having an IGT.
(I'm actually quite a fan of Ovo, but I suppose every supplier makes the odd mistake)0 -
You have miss understood: I am talking about 2.5 months not 21! The 'pain' is not in the switching process per se it is the time taken to get a final bill given that my new supplier has already billed me for gas. All I am saying is that, based on my experience with Ovo and EDF previously, the time taken to get accurate bills is longer when there is an IGT involved. In fairness to Ovo, they have kept me informed and they now have a final gas meter reading which I suspect they are disputing. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I am thinking of moving to Npower from OVO, however I have checked to see if they charge for IGT which on many sites say £10.50pa, however on there own site it said (We are removing our IGT premium to keep our tariffs simple and easy to understand) is the £10.50pa being added somewhere else?0
