  • Well I think im sorted for present(s), so I'll let you all know how it goes on Thursday (if my fingers remain capable of typing!).

The start of a new half term, and only a short one before Easter too. I have a long 3 days in work to prep for an annual 'chat' with a director on Friday morning so I need to be on the ball this week! despite that I'm not too busy this week.

£1 TT'd this morning. Despite a few current account activities the balance amazingly ended up at a round number, hence the £1 to TT. 3 days to payday, and 6 days to OP day & account posting day - favourite time of the month. A particular favourite this month as it'll be end of year 1 of the big plan. Time flies...

    What have you bought, then?
    2018 totals:
    Savings £11,200
    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500
  • Tipping in on the pressy debate:
Suggest a buy-in/delivered meal so that is one thing less for the marvelous Mrs SJ to do that day.
Then i suggest consumables rather than items which will just be tomorrow's clutter e.g. : chocs (obviously!); range of teas or coffees; speciality biscuits that would not be usually bought (e.g.D!tchy Orginals); bubble bath/shower gel (of favourite flavour); exotic fruit; magasine subscription.
Hope that helps anyone looking for non cluttering presents who cannot go out/ have surprise theatre or weekends away or spa days etc.
    Nite all

  • If only my daily interest were that low SJ.. I will try, but there is so little movement in our account, I'm only picking up the odd pence here and there, but never one to ignore a challenge! Pennies so far this week - £0

  • I started reading your diary on Saturday in between jobs and have just reached this point after being rudely awoken by my dog in the early hours.

What fantastic progress you have made and congratulations on mini SJ :)

Elephant I apologise for subjecting you to the ramblings, but thank you and howdy!

As for presents I gone for a two pronged approach; diamonds and soppy! The soppy consists of a frame with a baby pic of each of the sproglets, they look so similar is frightening. In all honesty there's a few pictures and I can only tell which one it is by the blanket they're wrapped in!

In money news I've TT'd another £1 this morning, and the last few weeks have been phenomenally frugal even by my standards! I've also decided to use my coop account to switch to Yorkshire bank whilst they're offering £150 switch bonus. After that pays I'm really stopping and reducing current accounts as 8 is enough (unless of course someone else offers a nice incentive....). So I'll start that on Friday in work after my directors chat!!!

  • 8 seems like a good number, SJ! I think technically we're at 10 but we don't use 2 at all, and 1 just holds the mortgage payment between when it gets paid in from salary to when it goes out again. Debating opening one more 5% account, but only if we go for a loan to buy a car this spring (and only if the loan is 3.4% so the math works out!).

Hey SJ, love what your doing with the money! Great idea! It's that balance and its hard to find! The Tilly Tidies are going really well and will be making such a difference ultimately!

  • Thanks jodles. I can't overstate the motivation that the TT's generates, alongside the obvious interest savings and balance decreases.

Hidden, no matter how much we intend to leave the switch incentives alone we just can't help ourselves can we!

  • 66p TT'd this morning. Payday tomorrow plus Mrs SJ birthday. I'm now at the 'do I need another present' stage... But with an 11 hour work day ahead there's nothing I can do!
