    NMW should be much higher in London than in other, cheaper parts of UK.

    One can survive on NMW in other parts of UK but in London this is simply not possible on one income. Rent levels, transport - both sky high.

    One pays the same for travel if they are on NMW or on 100k per year. Working part time on NMW and having to travel say from zone 3 to zone 1 for work - all earnings will go on travel.

    Saying that - improving earning prospects should be top priority over and before asking for more benefits IMHO.
