Have been ambling back over the few days that I've missed tonight. I see a lot of car boot sales talk. I'm not interested what folks do or don't do or sell or not sell at car boots or what profits they make. It's up to the individual.

I would like to say for people that don't know.....and it's never mentioned on here.....buying stuff to sell for a profit at car boots is considered as income for tax purposes. And since April last year HMRC have a campaign going to catch people who make extra income this way. Not just car booters.....eBay sellers, Avon ladies  Ann Summers party reps

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/second-incomes-campaign-your-guide-to-making-a-disclosure/second-incomes-campaign-your-guide-to-making-a-disclosure

it might not worry most and some will think it doesn't affect them but a large booty on my doorstep was targeted last year and a few prosecutions were made.

HMRC are ruthless and they will make you pay back if you are caught.

I'm only saying for the people who asked for booty advice and just got the profit making side of things

I represented someone who got caught up in this and I lost :o:( the person had to pay 100% tax back

We've been getting immigrants from this thread, so I thought I'd pop over and see who you are!
I've been told you would be friendly, especially if I brought cake, hence........

I agree with FC on this one. Mr 3Dogs started doing regular car boots when he was unable to work anymore due to his health, back a few years now. He had been claiming sickness benefit for a few months but straight away asked me to sort him out as a self employed trader doing all the right things on tax, benefits, keeping records of his trade, etc. We knew that 99% of the car booters were actually traders and not declaring, but he just couldn't do it that way. And he was right to do this of course. One year or so down the line, the tax man and DWP came visiting the market ...........

Just so everyone is aware, especially when buying in to sell, as he did

I do honestly think people aren't aware. If you have an abundance of one product to sell, you will be considered as a trader. And buying to sell on is not something you can hide frOm the tax man.

I've been quite shocked/bemused at the posts I've seen on here advertising it. It would not be hard to identify someone from here......or at least their local boot sale? I don't mind what anyone does. I do mind that people who might not know the ins and outs follow suit :(

    that's irresponsible
